The Minnesota Timberwolves are set to take on the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the 2025 NBA Playoffs. The Lakers have plenty of fanfare because of the franchise history and because they play in one of the top markets in the country, compared to the Timberwolves, who play in one of the smallest.
The Lakers are also favorites in part because the team looks much better after the Luka Doncic trade. The Timberwolves, who are the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference, are not favored to win this series, but Anthony Edwards explains why he actually enjoys being the underdogs.
“I just love it. It’s dope. I love the fact that everybody wants the Lakers to win. That’s how it’s supposed to be. They don’t want the Timberwolves to win. I get it,” Edwards told reporters, per Zone Coverage’s Andrew Dukowitz.
The Timberwolves had an up-and-down season, finishing with a 49-33 record. That is a noticeable slide compared to last season when the team finished with a 56-26 record, which put them at the No. 3 seed.
However, this Minnesota squad is battle-tested. Last year, they were the ones to take out the reigning NBA champions and make their first Western Conference Finals appearance since 2004. The rotation looks noticeably different, but the Timberwolves have gone on stretches where the team has looked near impossible to stop.
The Timberwolves will have their hands full against the Lakers because that’s what happens when a team is going up against Doncic and LeBron James on the same team. However, the challenge ahead clearly isn’t deterring Edwards.
