The Aaron Rodgers saga has been the most talked about storyline throughout the NFL offseason. After parting ways with the New York Jets, the future Hall of Famer has remained a free agent. He has been expected to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but has not pulled the trigger yet.
Due to his patience and lack of signing a deal, some fans have viewed Rodgers as “holding teams hostage.” In particular, the Steelers still need a starting quarterback, but have been waiting to see what Rodgers is going to do.
Rodgers has flown to Pittsburgh to visit with the team. He has also held a private throwing session with new Steelers’ star wideout DK Metcalf. Despite those two things, he has not reached a decision.
On Thursday, Rodgers made an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” and talked about a lot of different topics. One of those topics was the notion that he’s holding anyone “hostage.”
“I am trying to be open to everything and not specifically attached to anything when it comes to this decision,” Rodgers said. “I’m not holding anybody hostage – I really want to emphasize that. … I’m just going through a lot in my personal life that has to take precedent at this point. … At the same time, I want to keep the lines of communication open.”
Also, Rodgers revealed that retirement is still very much on the table for him.

There is no question that Rodgers can still play football at a high level. His addition would make Pittsburgh a serious contender in the AFC.
However, he’s not rushing his decision. He’s focused on his personal life, how his body feels, and whether or not he even wants to play. If he chooses to play, the Steelers seem to be the favorite to sign him.
All of that being said, Pittsburgh and fans will have to continue waiting. Rodgers was non-committal about when he could make a decision. No one should expect that decision to come in the next 24 hours.
