Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is looking to have a bounce-back season after an injury-riddled 2024. The three-time Pro Bowl selection struggled in his limited action, throwing for eleven touchdowns and eight interceptions while compiling a QBR that ranked 29th in the NFL.
Prescott ultimately suffered a season-ending torn hamstring in November, which he has been rehabbing since. While it appeared that the franchise quarterback had fully recovered from this setback, a recent statement by Cowboys co-owner Stephen Jones contradicted that notion.
Prescott has been seen working out with other Cowboys players on multiple occasions this offseason. Still, there is doubt about whether the 31-year-old will be ready to participate in organized team activities on May 19. In a recent interview with Dallas Morning News reporter Calvin Watkins, Jones explained the organization’s cautious approach to its quarterback’s health.
“Just as you would expect. We’re going to be very cautious and conservative, but if you left it up to him, he’d be out here throwing to them, ready to play the Giants on Monday night,” Jones said. “But obviously we’re going to monitor him and help manage him and make sure he makes good decisions when it comes to pushing it because he wants to go out there and be rolling yesterday.”
Simply put, the Cowboys need a 100% Prescott throughout 2025 to contend for a playoff spot. The NFC East division is just getting more stacked as the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders reload their rosters. In addition, the New York Giants are coming off, on paper, a very encouraging NFL Draft.
There’s still a lot of talent on this Cowboys’ roster, but it pales in comparison to some of the other contenders in the NFC. The organization needs its quarterback to live up to his $60 million contract, or else it’s going to have to answer some very tough questions a year from now. Jones is right to take a cautious approach this offseason, but it’s somewhat concerning that Prescott still doesn’t seem to be 100%.
