Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield and San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle joined a media call in advance of the 2025 American Century Championship, answering questions about the celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe at the Edgewood Tahoe resort from July 9-13 on Tuesday live on NBC, Peacock, and the GOLF Channel that will feature over 90 athletes and celebrities.

When I asked who from the football world could break the two-year-long drought for NFL players winning the tournament, both answered with Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen.

Both claimed Allen takes golfing more seriously than anyone else in the NFL.

But they also shared lighthearted shots at Niners’ fullback Kyle Juszczyk, who they claimed thinks he’s a lot better at golfing than he is.

“I got Josh. I think Josh takes golf the most seriously out of any of us, so, yes, I’m gonna go with Josh,” Mayfield said.

“I know Kyle Juszczyk’s going to try to win, but I’m going to go with Josh,” Kittle said.

“I played with Kyle last year. Kyle’s not winning,” Mayfield quipped back.

“Nah, I’m gonna tell you said that, he’s gonna hate you,” Kittle joked.

Juszczyk made his ACC debut last year, while Kittle will be making his debut this year. Steve Young and Jerry Rice also represented the 49ers as legendary alumni alongside Juszcyk last July.

Rice made headlines at the 2024 American Century Championship for yelling at Kansas City reporters asking about the Niners’ chances of returning to the Super Bowl in 2025, which they did not accomplish.

Tony Romo is the NFL’s favorite to win the 2025 American Century Championship

I asked Jerome Bettis the same question last week on which NFL player can break the championship drought for football players at the American Century Championship.

His answer was three-time winner Tony Romo, who last took home the prize in 2022.

Romo has the best betting odds of any football player, past or present, at the ACC.

Former tennis star Mardy Fish and Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry are the heavy favorites to win the tournament.
