Cristiano Ronaldo recently led Portugal to lift the UEFA Nations League trophy in June.
The Portuguese icon has always been dedicated and passionate about turning up for his national team, winning two Nations League titles and the 2016 UEFA European Championships as captain.
However, Ronaldo and Portugal are yet to win the FIFA World Cup, the highest honor in international football.
In the last edition of the World Cup held in 2022, Portugal were eliminated from the competition in the quarterfinals, leaving Ronaldo’s dream unfulfilled.
Lionel Messi and Argentina went on to lift the 2022 World Cup trophy, which made things worse for Ronaldo in the GOAT debate between the two legends, which has been ongoing for almost two decades.
Ronaldo has one final opportunity to bring the trophy to Portugal in the upcoming 2026 World Cup. However, former Premier League star William Gallas claimed the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s run in the competition will ‘probably end in tears’ next summer.

What did William Gallas say about Cristiano Ronaldo’s World Cup chances?
Ronaldo, who turned 40 in February, recently signed a contract extension with Al Nassr that will keep him at the Saudi Pro League club until the summer of 2027.
While speaking to Prime Casino, Gallas – who finished as a runner up with France at the 2006 World Cup – stated how Portugal look in strong shape, but added it will be ‘incredibly hard’ for Ronaldo to ‘fulfil his dream.’
“Cristiano Ronaldo will be at the World Cup next summer, and either way, it’ll be emotional,” as per GOAL.
“He may not be able to start games anymore, but he can still come off the bench. Portugal look strong – but it’ll be incredibly hard for Ronaldo to fulfil his dream. It will probably end in tears.”
The upcoming World Cup is slated to commence in June next year and will be held across Canada, Mexico and the United States.
