As the 2025 NFL season approaches, the Dallas Cowboys find themselves in an intriguing position. After a productive offseason and key roster moves, expectations are cautiously optimistic in Arlington. With a predicted record of 11-6, the Cowboys are projected to clinch a Wild Card spot or even a division championship; however, they are most likely to fall to either the 5th or 6th seed in the NFC playoff picture in this upcoming season.
One of the most notable upgrades came on offense with the acquisition of wide receiver George Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers. His arrival gives quarterback Dak Prescott another explosive target alongside CeeDee Lamb. Pickens’ ability to stretch the field and win contested catches will force defenses to pick their poison. This firepower should help open up the passing game, taking pressure off Lamb and giving Dak more flexibility to operate.
The Cowboys also retooled their backfield. Dallas added veteran depth by signing Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders. Both bring experience and versatility, but it’s rookie Jaydon Blue out of Texas who may turn heads. Blue’s burst and agility have impressed early in OTAs, and he could be a secret weapon in the rotation by midseason.
On the defensive side, the focus is on All-Pro linebacker Micah Parsons and his ongoing contract negotiations. Parsons is reportedly seeking a long-term extension worth around $200 million. Jerry Jones has indicated a willingness to pay Parsons what he deserves, but he also wants to ensure Parsons is fully committed to the leadership role he envisions for him. While a deal hasn’t been finalized yet, there’s strong optimism that the Cowboys will lock up their defensive cornerstone before the regular season begins. Parsons remains the engine of the Cowboys’ defense — a unit that consistently ranks among the NFL’s most aggressive and disruptive.
The Cowboys’ path to a division title will be challenging in a competitive NFC East, but an 11-6 record and a Wild Card berth keep them firmly in the Super Bowl hunt. With a stronger supporting cast on offense, a reloaded backfield, and a generational star on defense, Dallas may be flying under the radar, but they shouldn’t be taken lightly.
