NFL fans love predictions, especially bold predictions. Former Denver Broncos running back Phillip Lindsay has chosen to go bold with one of his recent takes, and it’s one that will get the fanbase talking.
Lindsay went from undrafted free agent to fan favorite in his three-year career with the Broncos. He’s also the answer to a great trivia question as he was the last running back in team history to cross 1,000 yards rushing in a season, accomplishing that in 2019.
Since his playing career ended, Lindsay has traded in his helmet for a headset as he works for 104.3 The Fan, a radio station dedicated to Colorado sports.
On a recent episode of Lindsay’s show “The Drive”, the discussion centered around choosing a surprise candidate that may not make this year’s final roster. Lindsay went with a big surprise, choosing free-agent running back J.K. Dobbins.
“A surprise camp cut, to me, when I’m thinking of this, is a guy that, obviously, you’re not expecting to be cut. For example, Tim Patrick last year. For this year, although I don’t believe that this player is going to get cut, there’s still a possibility if things don’t go right for him. And his name is J.K. Dobbins.
The reason why I bring up J.K. Dobbins is, you added him late. Say that he gets into camp and he gets hurt. He has an injury history, this is why I’m bringing it up, knock on wood, I’m hoping that he doesn’t get hurt. And he gets hurt and he misses two or three weeks, RJ Harvey emerges as the No. 1 running back, Jaleel [McLaughlin] and Audric Estime end up doing well, it’s like, ‘Hey, let’s just stick with the young guys and they’re cheap,” said Lindsay.
While it would be a major surprise for Dobbins not to make the team, Lindsay does make some valid points about his injury history. Entering training camp, Dobbins is either the No. 1 or No. 2 running back on the depth chart. However, the only way he doesn’t make the roster would be due to injury; aside from that, he is a lock. So, Lindsay did make a surprise choice, but it comes with a caveat.
