Callum Wilson left Newcastle United this summer with a Carabao Cup medal, five seasons behind him and a desire to stay in Premier League football.
Wilson, who joined St James’ Park from Bournemouth in 2020 for £20m [$27m], netted 49 goals and provided 11 assists in 130 games for the club.
However, his time on Tyneside wasn’t without setbacks as he struggled with consistent injury issues.
He still continued to receive call-ups from England when he was fit, but Newcastle had offered him a pay-as-you-play deal for lesser pay which Wilson didn’t want and chose to look for ‘security’ elsewhere.
His last season faded away quietly as he struggled for fitness, but he was still able to stay in the limelight with US media appearances and he reiterated that he sees his playing future in the Premier League as he looks for another chapter at that level.
It may now be East London.
Wilson closing in on West Ham move
According to talkSPORT, Wilson has agreed personal terms with West Ham United after productive talks in recent days.

The 33-year-old striker was also pursued by clubs in Saudi Arabia and the United States and the championship side like Burnley showed some interest too.
But Wilson has apparently showed firm desire to stay in the Premier League and continue competing at the top level.
West Ham have moved quickly after his agent Will Salthouse reached out directly to co-owner David Sullivan to explore a deal.
The club wants him but are offering a low base salary paired with goal and appearance bonuses, which mirrors the structure Newcastle had proposed before his exit.
Wilson is now expected to become West Ham’s third major signing of the summer after midfielder El Hadji Malick Diouf and right-back Kyle Walker-Peters.
The Hammers also confirmed the permanent return of French defender Jean-Clair Todibo, who spent last season on loan at the club.
