The Golden State Warriors and Jonathan Kuminga are in a bad place. While the two sides are unable to find a common ground for a new contract, Kuminga trade rumors continue to persist. The Sacramento Kings, Phoenix Suns, and Chicago Bulls have been the three teams floated as potential Kuminga sign-and-trade destinations.
ClutchPoint’s Brett Siegel created a Kuminga trade proposal that would bring the Warriors some not very exciting role players and a protected pick.
“Sacramento Kings receive: F Jonathan Kuminga (4-year, $112 million contract with about $25 million Year 1 base compensation)
Golden State Warriors receive: G Devin Carter, F Haywood Highsmith, SAC 2027 1st-round pick (Top-8 protected)
Miami Heat receive: G Malik Monk, F KJ Martin
Utah Jazz receive: G Terry Rozier, MIA 2029 1st-round pick swap (More favorable to UTA), CHA 2027 2nd-round pick (via MIA)”
This wild trade proposal would be a huge loss for the Warriors. Kuminga is the best available free agent on the market and is a productive player with star potential.
Devin Carter had a promising rookie season, but is still a pretty big question mark. Highsmith is another young guy with promise, but certainly doesn’t project to be a star. A Kings first first-round pick is intriguing, but a top-8 protection takes down the upside.
Carter only played 36 games last season, averaging 3.8 points and under 30% shooting from three. Highsmith showed a lot more in his second season, but still only averaged 6.5 points and 3.4 rebounds.

All-in-all, this would be a super disappointing return for a Kuminga trade. While Carter and Highsmith could become elite defensive pieces, they aren’t experienced enough for what Stephen Curry needs right now to contend for a championship.
