The Washington Commanders and star wide receiver Terry McLaurin appear to be at a standstill — and with training camp underway, there’s still no end in sight. On Thursday night, the situation took another turn.

Not forward, but toward the trade block.

McLaurin has officially requested a trade from the Commanders, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, who also noted that the veteran wideout is currently “holding in” as contract talks remain at a standstill.

Since entering the league, McLaurin has been one of the most consistent and productive receivers in the game. But at this point in his career, he’s not just looking for recognition — he wants a deal that reflects his value and puts him in the same pay range as the NFL’s top wideouts.

One of those benchmarks?

Fellow 2019 draft pick DK Metcalf, who recently signed a five-year deal with the Steelers worth $33 million annually. That’s reportedly the number McLaurin is targeting — and he’s not budging.

As of now, Washington hasn’t shown a willingness to meet that price, which likely led to McLaurin’s formal trade request.

From McLaurin’s perspective, the timing couldn’t be better. At 30 and coming off a career year, he knows this could be his last real chance at a major contract.

Last season, he caught 82 passes for 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns — the second-most receiving scores in the league. He averaged 13.4 yards per catch and surpassed 100 yards in five games, cementing his status as one of the NFL’s most dangerous offensive weapons.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, a few teams have shown interest in a potential trade, but so far, Washington hasn’t seemed willing to engage.

Still, with the standoff becoming increasingly public and the regular season fast approaching, the Commanders are running out of time — and options.

Sooner or later, the franchise will have to make a choice. Pay McLaurin or prepare to move on without him.
