Two of the most patient teams so far to kick-off the 2025 NFL offseason have been the Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars.
Both teams passed on mega free agent signings during the first wave of free agency, opting instead to cut ties with high-priced veterans and pave the way for young ascending players to shine. The Eagles lost a boatload of talent on defense in top pass rusher Josh Sweat, DT Milton Williams and safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson. The Jaguars took their biggest hits on offense, parting with WR Christian Kirk, tight end Evan Engram and All-Pro guard Brandon Scherff.
The Eagles currently hold eight selections in the 2025 NFL Draft, and GM Howie Roseman continues to stockpile picks for both the present and future. NFL draft editor Kyle Stackpole sees those efforts continuing this April when the defending Super Bowl champions are on the clock at pick No. 32 overall.
Stackpole predicts the Jaguars will make a bold move to trade back up into the first round, eyeing what could be an elite wide receiver pairing with superstar Brian Thomas Jr.:

- Eagles receive: Pick Nos. 36 (second round) and 107 (fourth round)
Proposed Jaguars selection at No. 32 overall: Emeka Egbuka, WR, Ohio State
- Stackpole: “The Jaguars need another playmaker to pair with Brian Thomas Jr. and they take matters into their own hands by trading back into the first round for Emeka Egbuka. Jacksonville parts ways with picks Nos. 36 and 107 (Round 4) to move up four spots for the Ohio State standout.”
We’ve been waiting for new head coach Liam Coen to put his first real stamp on Jacksonville’s offense, and this move would certainly qualify. Egbuka feels like one of the safest wide receiver prospects in this year’s draft class, and he would be a perfect fit for the Chris Godwin role in Coen’s offense, with Thomas and the recently-signed Dynami Brown working outside the numbers and down the field.

In this hypothetical, Stackpole has some of Philly’s top projected first-round targets, like safety Malaki Starks of Georgia, EDGE James Pearce Jr. of Tennessee, guard Grey Zabel of North Dakota State, and tackle Josh Simmons of Ohio State, already off the board.
Eagles fans might be into the idea of Egbuka or Luther Burden III as a potential upgrade at WR3, but no NFL team has done a better job at infusing drafted talent into the starting roster than Philadelphia, and the opportunity to move back just a few spots for an extra fourth-round pick would be easy pickings for Roseman and Co.
