The Jacksonville Jaguars made an important trade ahead of the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday, adding WR Jakobi Meyers from the Las Vegas Raiders for a fourth- and sixth-round pick.
The move comes less than a week after rookie two-way player Travis Hunter suffered an injury in practice, resulting in the team putting him on injured reserve. While Ian Rapoport reports that Hunter should return this season, the rookie will at least miss the next three games.
Therefore, Meyers becomes an important addition for Jacksonville, which probably needed wide receiver help even before Hunter went down.

Hunter’s injury may have been a precursor for the Meyers trade, as Jacksonville unexpectedly lost its rookie indefinitely last week. Hunter had been spending much of his time on offense in the slot, and Meyers could fill in there while Hunter is sidelined.
Thomas Jr. remains the team’s top receiver, although he has been banged up and underwhelmed this year. With 420 receiving yards, the second-year receiver is the only player on the team to surpass 300 yards receiving through eight games in 2025.
Brown and Washington have both been solid, combining for 516 receiving yards between the two of them, but neither player offers the upside that Meyers does. Meyers’ addition should push Washington and Brown back into more familiar roles as the third and fourth wide receivers, respectively, which is where they spent the season until Hunter’s injury.
Tim Patrick is a veteran but mostly serves to fill a depth role, but he hasn’t offered much on offense this year with just 63 yards on four catches. Austin Trammell is a fourth-year player who has just eight career catches and has played in just one game this year, while Cephus is out for the season after suffering an injury in training camp.
