The Buffalo Bills not only beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 13 but also embarrassed them. Pittsburgh, a franchise known for having a stout run offense and equally tough run defense, couldn’t stop Buffalo from running at will.
The Bills finished with 249 rushing yards. Not only was this a historic mark for an opponent in Pittsburgh since the franchise moved to Heinz Field/Acrisure Stadium in 2001, but it was the most on a Steelers field in the last 50 years. To make matters worse, frustrations from the home crowd reached new heights in the loss.
The fans began booing the lack of offense from their home team, then escalated their boos to include the defense’s lackluster performance. Acrisure Stadium erupted in “fire Tomlin” chants, and the team’s anthem, “Renegade” by Styx, was loudly booed, which may have been a first, according to local media.

The Bills tallied 249 rushing yards on the ground. Not only is this the most rushing yards an away team has had at Heinz Field/Acrisure Stadium, but the most in the last 50 years in any Pittsburgh home stadium.

Starting running back James Cook ran the ball 32 times for 144 yards with no touchdowns. Backup running back Ray Davis had 62 yards on nine carries. Quarterback Josh Allen had 38 yards and a touchdown on the ground, setting the NFL record for most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in history. Third-string running back Ty Johnson helped set the record with five yards on two carries.

Most rushing yards vs. Steelers at home
The Bills now own the record for the most rushing yards by a visitor to Heinz Field/Acrisure Stadium.
The previous record for most rushing yards allowed at the stadium was 231 yards. It was set by both the Cleveland Browns (2016) and the Jacksonville Jaguars (2017).
In fact, this was the most rushing yards against the Steelers in Pittsburgh since 1975, when the Bills ran for 310 yards behind O.J. Simpson.

Why did Steelers fans boo team?
With injuries earlier this season to Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson and Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, the Steelers found themselves in a position where they controlled their own destiny toward the playoffs. Pittsburgh got out to a 4-1 start to the season and has now gone 2-5 over its last seven games to be 6-6 in Week 13.
While the Bills ran for 249 yards in the 26-7 win, the Steelers tallied a total of 166 yards on offense. That is why the fans rained down boos throughout the second half.
