The Golden State Warriors are counting down the days until Jonathan Kuminga is trade-eligible.
When Jan. 15 arrives, the Dubs will have the luxury of exploring franchise-bolstering trades involving the 6-foot-7 NBA champion forward. In a hypothetical three-team deal centered around Kuminga, Golden State would land a 27-year-old ex-Denver Nuggets star.
“The Warriors have not exactly been shy about making their stance on trading Jonathan Kuminga known, and on paper, a trade structure between them and the (Brooklyn) Nets should be pretty straightforward,” ClutchPoints’ Jedd Pagaduan wrote Sunday.
“Alas, the Nets haven’t been very interested in Kuminga anyway, which might call into necessity the involvement of a third team. Thankfully for both teams, there is a franchise that remains head over heels for Kuminga in the Sacramento Kings. That still seems to be Kuminga’s likeliest destination, as the franchise currently in shambles has an opening for a primary scoring option, which he could fill in theory.
“To that end, here is a workable three-team trade proposal that satisfies the Warriors, Nets, and Kings’ demands (Michael Porter Jr to the Warriors, Zach LaVine, Devin Carter, Buddy Hield, and three future draft picks to the Nets, and Kuminga, Terance Mann, and Moses Moody to the Kings.”
Porter has been on the Warriors’ radar since the 2024-25 trade season. The Missouri product’s deadeye three-point shooting makes him one of the prolific long-range weapons the NBA has to offer.
Since leaving the Nuggets this past offseason, Porter has not only continued to set the nets on fire but also taken his scoring to the next level (thanks to the Nets allowing him to assume No. 1 scorer/playmaking responsibilities).
Porter is contributing 25.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game with Brooklyn this season, shooting 49.0% from the field and 39.7% from three-point land.
In an ideal world, the Warriors would find a way to poach Porter from the Nets and get back on track as a franchise.
