New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel’s long-standing Super Bowl comment has become a complicated situation, one that’s grown increasingly difficult to ignore as the Patriots’ championship aspirations have solidified into reality.
The head coach of the New England Patriots is not only preparing for Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks but is also clarifying one of the most peculiar soundbites in NFL media history — his 2019 comment on the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast that he would cut off his penis to win a Super Bowl as a head coach.
Mike Vrabel’s hard-to-forget quote makes a comeback at Super Bowl 60
The original quote came during Vrabel’s tenure with the Tennessee Titans, just days after his team eliminated the Patriots from the playoffs in Tom Brady’s final game with New England. After beating New England, the Titans went on to stun the No. 1 seed Baltimore Ravens, and the podcast interview aired just before Tennessee’s AFC Championship appearance against Kansas City.
Asked by hosts Taylor Lewan and Will Compton what he’d be willing to give up for a Super Bowl ring, they jokingly asked him if he would be willing to cut off his penis. Vrabel didn’t blink.
“Been married 20 years, yeah, probably,” he said.
Fast forward to 2026, Vrabel is back on Bussin’ With The Boys, this time as the Patriots head coach during Super Bowl media week in San Francisco, and once again, the infamous quote resurfaces.
“I got asked that in Boston,” said Vrabel, referencing an earlier interview on The Greg Hill Show where the topic was first revived earlier this postseason. He then added with a grin, “I mean, I’d probably cut it in half. Leave her six.”

It’s a rare full-circle moment. In 2019, Vrabel’s Titans ended the Patriots’ dynasty. Now, he’s the one trying to deliver New England its next championship, and the quote that once defined a run that fell short is now trailing him into one that could finish the job.
Vrabel won three rings as a linebacker in New England. On Sunday, he has a chance to win his first as a head coach and finally give that infamous quote the closure it never asked for, but somehow always demanded.
