Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is on the precipice of a 63-year-old NBA record.
The Oklahoma City Thunder superstar has scored 20 points or more in 125 consecutive games, and he can tie Wilt Chamberlain’s mark for successive games with 20-plus points on Monday night against the Denver Nuggets.
Gilgeous-Alexander’s playing style isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but there is no denying the reigning MVP’s effectiveness. Last year, he led the NBA in scoring at 32.7 points per game as the Thunder won 68 games and the first championship in Oklahoma City.
This season, Gilgeous-Alexander has overcome an abdominal injury to average 31.6 points on career-best 54.9 percent shooting from the field.

Though his scoring output can rely sometimes on free-throw attempts, Gilgeous-Alexander hasn’t been limited to under 20 points in a long time.
In fact, you’d have to go back to Oct. 30, 2024, to find the last time that Gilgeous-Alexander failed to score at least 20 points in a game.

In that game — a 105-93 win over the San Antonio Spurs — Gilgeous-Alexander scored only 18 points on 7-of-20 shooting.
Two days later, in a 137-114 thumping of the Portland Trail Blazers, Gilgeous-Alexander dropped 30 points in 28 minutes, thus starting a streak that continues today.
The Thunder will host the Nuggets on Monday night with Gilgeous-Alexander in position to tie Chamberlain, widely regarded as one of the greatest basketball players in history. The game tips off at 6:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on Peacock.
