The San Francisco 49ers have made a ton of nice roster moves this offseason, including the signings of Mike Evans and Dre Greenlaw, along with the trade for defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa.

But the 49ers still have a big need left on their roster: another edge rusher. Nick Bosa will come back, and so too will Mykel Williams. The 49ers need a bit more depth and upside at the position, especially after failing to address it during the draft.

So it’s not a surprise that they’re linked to some trades. Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport is predicting the 49ers to send a package to the New York Giants for edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux. However, this predicted package is a ridiculous one that makes no sense for the 49ers.

49ers predicted to swing ridiculous trade with Giants for Kayvon Thibodeaux

“San Francisco 49ers receive: Edge Kayvon Thibodeaux. New York Giants receive: 2027 Round 2 pick,” Davenport predicts.

This would be a completely ridiculous offer for the 49ers to make. It’s way too much to give up for Thibodeaux.

The Giants’ edge rusher is 25 years old and will be a free agent after the 2026 season. He’s also coming off an injury-shortened season with only 2.5 sacks.

No team will actually give up a second-round pick for Thibodeaux, as he’s not been nearly good enough to warrant such a high cost for a player who is a one-year rental.

A good comparison for how ridiculous such a trade would be is the package the 49ers actually sent to the Dallas Cowboys for Odighizuwa. The 49ers sent just a third-round pick for the veteran defensive tackle.

While there’s a position difference, Odighizuwa is a good pass-rushing DT who is also under contract for a while longer.

There’s almost no chance that Thibodeaux, who is only under contract for one season and wasn’t nearly good enough recently to warrant a higher price than the ex-Cowboys DT.

Thibodeaux is not worth a second-round pick, especially a 2027 selection in what’s looking like one of the better draft classes in recent years.

This trade prediction from Davenport is completely ridiculous and way too expensive for the 49ers. It wouldn’t make any sense for them to swing such a trade.
