Draymond Green is in a heated Hall of Fame debate with Tracy McGrady and Joe Johnson. Former NBA player Rashad McCants started the discussion on Gil’s Arena this week.

McCants and Dwight Howard traded arguments over who truly deserves basketball’s gold jacket. The conversation examined whether the Hall values individual statistics, team success, or overall impact more.

At one point, McCants bluntly questioned Green’s case, saying, “Draymond Green? Come on man. What are we talking about? He a role player.”

Green won four championships with the Golden State Warriors and earned Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2017. Critics argue his numbers fall short of the traditional Hall standard. McCants doubled down during the debate, arguing Green “got rings because he played with Steph and Klay.”

“My route won’t be the typical route,” Green told The Athletic about his Hall of Fame case. “If you know the game of basketball, then I think I have a case.”

The Warriors forward is a four-time All-Star and a seven-time All-Defensive team selection. He also won two Olympic gold medals with Team USA during his international career.

Howard and other panelists defended Green by pointing to his résumé, arguing he “was the heart of them Warriors teams” and that “he impacts winning.”

McGrady was inducted into the Hall in 2017 after averaging 19.6 points per game across 16 seasons. His enshrinement remains a divisive topic among fans and analysts alike.

Johnson became a first-time Hall nominee for the 2026 class after an 18-year NBA career. The seven-time All-Star scored over 20,000 points but earned just one All-NBA selection.

McCants referenced both scorers during the exchange, saying, “Joe Johnson got 20K points, T-Mac was a scoring champ, All-NBA… but even them—Draymond?”

The debate showed the conflict between peak performance and lasting success. Some panelists favored players with dominant peaks while others valued sustained excellence. McCants also warned that “if we putting Draymond in, then what? It’s getting watered down.”

Howard, an eight-time All-Star and three-time Defensive Player of the Year, remains outside the Hall. His absence added another layer to an already contentious discussion.

Gilbert Arenas and the Gil’s Arena crew have increasingly shaped national NBA conversations. The show’s unfiltered format draws millions of views across multiple social platforms.

The 2026 Hall of Fame class will be announced during the NBA All-Star weekend. Finalists are selected ahead of the enshrinement ceremony scheduled for later this year.
