Two point guards have dominated the NBA over the last few seasons.
Jalen Brunson of the New York Knicks led his team to end a 52-year title drought this season. Last season, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander won the Oklahoma City Thunder their first title since they were known as the Seattle Supersonics.
Those two guards were the primary reasons behind the championship runs. Naturally, this has led to comparisons between the two teams and their superstars.
That includes former NBA champion PJ Tucker, who has a bold take on the Brunson and SGA debate.

Standing at 6-6, Gilgeous-Alexander is not the prototypical point guard, but Brunson is an anomaly because he’s developed into one of the NBA’s most feared scorers despite being only 6-1.
SGA and Brunson led their respective teams to championships as their best players, so it has naturally sparked a debate in some circles over who is better.
For Tucker, there’s no question about who leads the way.
“I’m rolling with JB for sure. JB’s so clutch, bro,” Tucker said on Club 520’s show at Fanatics Fest. “He’s like a 90s era player. He doesn’t talk a lot and he’s not going to do too much, but when you on his team and you on the bench, you over there, he’s getting the ball, bro.
“If he’s not shooting, he’s making the play every single time. And it’s a lot of teams in this league that got stars and all that, and they do not want the moments… JB is going to take that. Whether he miss or make, it doesn’t matter. He’s going to have the same energy every single time.”
Tucker brings valid points about Brunson’s game, but the same points could be said about Gilgeous-Alexander. The Thunder star is a back-to-back MVP after all.
It is fair to compare two of the best point guards in the NBA, but Tucker might be underestimating the Thunder superstar.
