Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is expected to bring in more players ahead of the 2024/25 Premier League season, with Canadian international Jonathan David rumoured to be a target.
Postecoglu failed to achieve his goal of finishing in the top four and qualifying for the UEFA Champions League in his debut campaign, and the Australian plans to change that in the next 12 months.
Highly-rated teenager Archie Gray has already joined from Leeds United. The England Under-21 international offers flexibility to play in defence and midfield.
Goals were a problem for Spurs last season, however, with Postecoglou’s charges netting 74 in 38 games – the seventh-highest tally in the Premier League.
Captain Son Heung-min scored 17 but Postecoglou is keen to ease the South Korean’s load and David is a possible option.
Tottenham ‘in contact’ with Jonathan David
According to an exclusive report from Insider information about footballSpurs are said to be in “daily contact” with David’s representatives over a potential transfer as they look to get an edge over other interested English sides.
Lille club president Olivier Letang has previously hinted that the French club are willing to sell David, who is now in the final year of his contract in France, with £25 million (US$32 million) suggested as a possible sale price.
That would certainly be within Tottenham’s price range as David seeks a new challenge away from Ligue 1.
Lille signed the 24-year-old striker from Belgian club Gent in 2020, and his goal average has remained impressive, with 43 league goals over the past two seasons.
Only Kylian Mbappe has scored more in that window in Ligue 1 and Tottenham may have to act quickly to bring him to north London.
