Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has decided to withdraw from Norway’s national team ahead of their UEFA Nations League matches this month.
After a recent return to action following a lengthy ankle injury, the 25-year-old playmaker announced that he isn’t yet back to full strength and will focus on recovery to avoid further setbacks.
The decision comes after Odegaard played his first full match since August, as he assisted Gabriel Martinelli’s goal in Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea.
Although his performance was impressive, Odegaard admitted he was not yet 100% fit. Following discussions with Norway’s medical staff, he chose to head back to London for continued rehabilitation instead of risking his recovery by playing internationally.

Odegaard expressed disappointment about missing the opportunity to represent Norway.
He said: “I need to listen to my body, complete this rehab process, and get my foot back in good shape.”
After his ankle injury — a complex one, according to Norway’s team doctor, Ola Sand — Odegaard stressed the need for caution as he continues his return to fitness.

Norway’s head coach Stale Solbakken agreed, noting that although Odegaard was eager to play, it was best to prioritsze his long-term health.
Arsenal’s growing injury concerns
Key Arsenal players like Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice are also out of international action after the Chelsea match. The duo have pulled out of the England squad for this international break for reasons similar to Odegaard’s.
