It has been a frustrating summer transfer window so far for Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga champions are looking to bring in fresh attacking reinforcements but have struggled to secure their primary targets.
With the confirmed departures of Leroy Sane and Thomas Müller, following the FIFA Club World Cup, Bayern Munich need players who can fill those roles.

After multiple false starts, reports from German outlet Kicker are citing an accelerated interest in Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens. The English winger was clos to joining Chelsea ahead of the Club World Cup, but the Blues failed to agree on a transfer fee, and that could leave the door open for Kompany.

As per BILD, Gittens had a seven-year agreement with Chelsea worth €6.5m [$7.5m] per year (he currently earns €3.5m/$4m at Dortmund). Chelsea were also willing to pay a €55m [$64m] transfer fee, but Dortmund will not budge on their asking price of €65m [$75m].
Bayern Munich need to at least match Chelsea’s fee and wages to stand a chance of securing Gittens this summer.
Where does Gittens fit at Bayern Munich?
Bayern Munich have been monitoring the 20-year-old winger for some time, and they feel he could be an ideal long-term replacement for Sane, who opted for a new challenge with Turkish champions Galatasaray.
The England U21 star is a player with great potential, but not yet the finished product, despite his ability to waltz past defenders in the final third.
As per FBref, Gittens completed 3.9 successful take-ons per game, more than any other Bundesliga player in 2024/25. He also averaged 5.53 progressive carries and 9.2 progressive passes per 90 minutes last season alongside eight goals and three assists in 32 Bundesliga appearances.
Gittens hasn’t been at his best under Niko Kovac, with more star quality shown with Nuri Sahin. The Turkish tactician based his system around him and gave him more freedom to play and provide isolation in wide areas to use his strength in 1v1s.
All three clubs – Dortmund, Bayern and Chelsea – are away on Club World Cup duty, but their respective campaigns end, we can expect fight to secure the transfer.
