Jets cornerback Kris Boyd was in “critical condition” after he was involved in a shooting in New York City in the early morning of Sunday, Nov. 16, according to New York Post. On Wednesday, Nov. 19, Jets coach Aaron Glenn said that Boyd will “walk away from this just fine,” per NBC Sports.
The investigation is considered to be ongoing. No arrests have currently been made, per police.
Boyd, 29, is in his first year as a member of the Jets. A seventh-round pick in 2019 by the Minnesota Vikings, the cornerback spent four years in Minnesota before one-year stints with the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans.
Boyd has been on injured reserve since the preseason after suffering a season-ending shoulder injury.

Boyd was shot and critically wounded in Manhattan early Sunday morning, per reports. According to the New York Post, he was “clinging to life at Bellevue Hospital” following the shooting. However, on Wednesday, Nov. 19, Jets head coach Aaron Glenn said that Boyd “will be OK” and that he has spoken with the cornerback, per NBC Sports.
The 29-year-old was “shot in the abdomen outside Sei Less restaurant after a dispute turned violent,” the New York Post said, adding that he “lapsed in and out of consciousness” before being taken to the hospital. Boyd was “critical but stable,” The Athletic reports.
The shooting reportedly took place in Midtown on West 38th Street near Seventh Avenue around 2 a.m., according to police, after someone supposedly tried to steal Boyd’s chain.
The Jets released a brief statement Sunday afternoon, saying, “We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time.”
On Monday, the NYPD released a photo of the suspect and described him as “last seen wearing a black cap, black sweatshirt, black pants, multi-colored sneakers, and carrying a black bookbag.”
Jets teammates have also spoken about Boyd, with defensive end Harrison Phillips saying players have even spoken to the corner, per Fox.
“I just know there’s been a lot of answered prayers,” Phillips said. “It’s a blessing to know that he’s in stable condition, surrounded by his family with a lot of support around him. Definitely from where the news was originally reported, there’s a lot of panic and a lot of emotion that goes into that. Not to lighten the situation, but I think we’re a little more grateful knowing he’s in stable condition now.”
Glenn said on Wednesday, Nov. 19 that when he’s talked to Boyd, the cornerback has sounded positive, speaking about his outlook.
“He’s going to come out of this thing really, really well,” Glenn said, per NBC Sports. “That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s in good spirits, his wife and his kid, they’re in good spirits, and he’ll walk away from this just fine.”
Glenn also said that Boyd “felt really upbeat” when he talked to him.
“Once I heard about the situation, talking about Kris in general, the first thing I thought about was, he just had a kid, and I’m thinking about his wife, I’m thinking about his kid, and I want to make sure that he’s OK. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind,” Glenn said, per NBC Sports.
In another positive update, Boyd posted on his Instagram story Wednesday, telling fans, “I’m sorry, I have no words at the moment..Just grateful! I’m coming along, starting to breathe on my own now. Sincerely appreciate everyone!”

Boyd has a one-year, $1.6 million contract for the 2025 season, though he suffered a season-ending shoulder injury ahead of Week 1. He has made just north of $8 million in his NFL career, according to Spotrac.
