Christian McCaffrey was having a great first half against the Bills before sliding down in the snow despite not being touched early in the second quarter.
McCaffrey immediately checked himself out of the game and ran right into the medical tent.
The 49ers star RB missed the beginning of the season with Achilles tendinitis in both legs. Since returning in Week 10, he’s had at least double-digit carries in each of his three games. McCaffrey was going to be called on a lot by San Francisco due to the weather, but backup running back Jordan Mason took over as the lead back following McCaffrey’s exit.

Christian McCaffrey injury update
McCaffrey had just ripped off an 18-yard run that nearly went for a TD, and after two plays off, he checked back into the game. He took a pitch on 1st-and-10, running to the right side, but he slowed almost instantly and simply slid down into the snow.

He went to the medical tent and then the locker room after trying to jog in place on the sideline. Every stadium is different, but it feels notable that McCaffrey didn’t get carted to the locker room.
He ultimately limped gingerly to the X-ray room to have his knee checked out, and he was declared “questionable” to return.
McCaffrey was ruled out for the remainder of the game in the early part of the third quarter. Head coach Kyle Shanahan may give some insight into the injury after the game, but it may be Monday before we get any other updates on the injury severity.

Further tests will be conducted, but head coach Kyle Shanahan said after the game that there is a legitimate fear that McCaffrey suffered a season-ending PCL injury.

The 49ers confirmed Monday that the reigning Offensive Player of the Year is being placed on IR, forcing him to miss a minimum of four weeks, but he’s likely out for at least the remainder of the regular season.
