Kirk Cousins wouldn’t question the Philadelphia Eagles.
Not because he’s happy with the Atlanta Falcons’ 22-21 victory Monday night, which ended with a game-winning drive, but because he said he has a lot of respect for defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.
He even called Fangio’s plan “reasonably effective” despite the fact that he threw the game-winning score to Drake London with 34 seconds left.
Cousins appeared on “The Dan Patrick Show” Wednesday where he wondered if perhaps the Eagles had learned their lesson when he completed a 41-yard touchdown pass to Darnell Mooney for a 15-10 lead heading into halftime.
Patrick asked Cousins if he was surprised the Eagles didn’t blitz more given Cousins’ lack of mobility following surgery last season.
“So Darnell Mooney’s touchdown was a cover zero, a total blitz,” Cousins said. “So when they did that, we had our biggest play. Maybe he learned from that. Also, in the second half, they were in preventative coverage to keep us out of the end zone. They really had a roof on the defense. We didn’t have a lot of explosive plays.”

Cousins also wondered if perhaps the Eagles should have simply attempted a “tush push” on third down late in the game, when Saquon Barkley dropped a short pass that set up a field goal for a 21-15 Eagles lead.
“But it was a good play,” Cousins said. “It was in the flat, a safe throw. You catch it and you can potentially convert it.”
Instead of a possible two-point lead, the Eagles suffered their first loss.
Barkley’s call wasn’t Philly’s only miss, as Nick Sirianni opted for a fourth-down conversion instead of an early field goal that could have changed the course of the final minutes.
