The Cleveland Browns will have a quarterback competition this offseason to determine who the starter is going to be, and one of the keys to winning the job will be how much work they get during the offseason.
Todd Monken is bringing a new offense to the Browns, and with that new offense being a challenge to learn, the player who shows up and does the most work will have a significant advantage in winning the starting job.
And, as 92.3 The Fan shared, Monken revealed some illuminating information about the QB battle that does not bode well for Dillon Gabriel, but does look good for Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson.
Dillon Gabriel’s update is bad news for Browns’ QB job
“It’s been great that (Shedeur’s) been in the building,” Monken said. “It’s refreshing to see a player that recognizes where he’s at and where he wants to get to. I have not seen Dillon, yet. Deshaun was in early, so I got a chance to sit down with him.”

This update from Monken is a significant one that does not bode well for Gabriel to land a starting job with the Browns this upcoming season.
With both Sanders and Watson in the Browns facility working to get ready for the upcoming season, and Gabriel not in the facility according to Monken, the QB starting competition might already be narrowing down.
Gabriel will still have a chance to win a starting job, but as of this update, both Sanders and Watson should have a leg up on Gabriel in getting the starting job.

Gabriel made six starts and appeared in 10 games last season for the Browns, completing 59.5% of his passes for 937 yards, seven touchdowns, and two interceptions.
His 80.2 quarterback rating wasn’t great, but it wasn’t terrible either. The issue was that, even with his limited turnovers, he struggled to string together drives and wasn’t as efficient or accurate as Sanders was with largely the same offense.
The 25-year-old lefty quarterback out of Oregon doesn’t look likely to get the Browns’ starting job in 2026, as the upside with Sanders and Watson is higher.
This update from Monken only hurts Gabriel’s odds to land the starting job, as Gabriel not being in the facility while the other two quarterbacks are isn’t the best look for the second-year QB.
