Discord is a perse chat app that allows you to communicate with your friends and do a variety of other things. Discord is primarily used for gaming, particularly as a VoIP service.
Although it usually works like a charm and requires little effort to set up, problems can still arise. Is easy to see why “Discord does not answer the microphone“It’s an issue you’ll want to keep in mind when planning a game with your friends. Here’s how to fix this annoying problem.

Resume
The first thing a support officer will ask you is: “Have you tried restarting the app?” They will then ask, “Have you tried restarting your device?” As trivial as it may seem, a simple reset can often fix various issues going wrong on your device.
- So, simply turn off the app by navigating to the system tray, right-clicking on the Discord icon and selecting Get out of discord. Then run the app to see if the error persists.

- If your microphone is not working, restart your device and see if this fixed the problem. In case the error persists, proceed to the next method.
Restarting apps and devices forces them to delete temporary files that only exist during runtime, might have been corrupted, etc.; it also causes the log files/drivers to be reloaded. So, as simple as it may be, start by restarting everything.
Update drivers
If an audio driver is missing, outdated, or corrupted on your system, it is likely the one causing the entire problem. The solution here is to simply update your audio drivers.
Here’s how to update the audio drivers on your PC:
- Use the Search bar and writes Device administrator.

- Click Audio inputs and outputs.

- Right click on your audio driver and click Update driver.

You may need to check your sound card and download the corresponding driver from the manufacturer’s site. Another way would be to find an automatic update tool that scans your system and its components and automatically searches for and downloads all the necessary drivers.
Try running as administrator
For some reason, a problem may occur when running an application normally. This can be the case with this particular error and many other problems. What you can try is to run the Discord app as an administrator.
- Doing this is very simple; Simply exit Discord if it is already running and navigate to the Discord icon on your desktop.
- Right click on the icon, select Execute as an administrator and confirm. Now, check if the error in question persists.

Reset audio settings
Maybe you pressed something by accident, or maybe the app itself did it, but your settings may have changed. Resetting settings can make many things work within the Discord app; Voice settings are no exception here.
- To reset audio settings in Discord, open the app and go to User settingslocated at the bottom of the Discord home page (gear icon).

- From the left menu, select Voice and video.

- On the page that appears, scroll down, click Reset voice settingsand confirm.

- Once you have reset the settings, you will be able to find the microphone test p and click Let’s check to see if the solution has worked.
Disable exclusive mode
The solution to this problem may not be in the Discord app itself. Windows may be the culprit here. There is a setting in Discord that allows you exclusive control over the audio device driver. This may not sit well with Windows, so you will need to disable this mode in your operating system.
- To do this, go to the sound icon in the system tray, right click and select sounds
. - Now, go to Recording eyelash.

- Then select the device in question and click Properties.

- From this menu, select the Advanced eyelash.

- Then uncheck the boxes in front of Allow apps to take exclusive control of this device and Prioritize apps in exclusive mode configuration and thenselect OK.

Check your privacy and security settings
If none of the above suggestions worked, you may want to check your privacy and security settings. We’ll cover how to do that in Windows 10.
- Click on the Begin menu and select Settings.

- Now, click on Privacy.

- Next, click Microphone; It’s in the left side menu below Application permissions.

- So make sure Microphone access is on and Allow apps to access your microphone are In.

If you’re using a Mac, do this:
- Click on the apple icon in the upper left corner and click System preferences.

- Click on Security and Privacy.

- Click on the padlock icon in the lower left corner. Enter your Mac credentials to make changes.

- Click Microphone in the left side menu.

- Check the box next to Discord if it was not reviewed.
Hopefully, adjusting your privacy settings fixed the situation.

- personal computer – Check for updates by following the Settings>Update and security path.
- Mac – Update your Mac by going to System Preferences > Software Update.
- iOS app – Open the app store and type Discord in the search bar. If you see a Update button, touch it.
