For now, the Miami Dolphins have some good news to offer regarding Odell Beckham Jr.’s injury.

Mike McDaniel, Dolphins head coach met journalists the day before the NFL’s final 53-man roster cut deadline and suggested Beckham would not be on the physically unfit to perform (PUP) list to start the season.

Beckham wasn’t on the list of names (Bradley Chubb, Cam Goode, Isaiah Wynn) set to start the year with the PUP. It’s an interesting twist, given the absolute mystery of the injury that has kept Beckham out of practice with the team since signing a one-year, $3 million deal this offseason.

Even though Beckham enters the season with a 53-man roster, that doesn’t mean he’ll immediately start working out so quarterback Tua Tagovailoa can truly understand the star receiver’s role in the offense.

This Beckham injury saga has dominated discussions of Dolphins training camp, with vague updates from coaches and Beckham himself arguing with fans about it on social media.

Adding to the intrigue is the fact that Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle have also suffered minor injuries recently. One of the next players on the roster, River Cracraft, could also miss the start of the season due to an injury suffered in the final preseason game.

If Beckham avoids the non-football injury (NFI) list, he could easily get stronger in the two weeks leading up to the season opener. The Dolphins desperately need that around Tagovailoa, given the trio’s lack of reps together over the summer. But if not, fans will at least have some sort of information when the injury reports start before Week 1.
