The Brooklyn Nets enter the season with low expectations after trading away the team’s lone star Mikal Bridges during the offseason.
However, the Nets have a former lottery pick on their bench that many may have forgotten about. Brooklyn forward Dorian Finney-Smith believes that the former star is going to remind people just how talented he is this upcoming season.
“People don’t know how healthy Ben (Simmons) is going to be,” Finney-Smith told YES Network on Tuesday. “But we’ve been seeing him for the last four weeks and he looks great. So, if bro gets back on the court I feel like it’s gonna help our team a lot, and we’re going to shake the NBA.”
Simmons was selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. After multiple solid seasons with the team, many believed the LSU product would be the franchise’s next superstar alongside Joel Embiid.
However, a fractured relationship between Simmons and the team led the talented playmaker down the road that ultimately landed him in Brooklyn.
The 6-foot-10 guard has dealt with nagging injuries since joining the Nets, but after a full offseason to get back healthy, it seems like Simmons could be poised for a major comeback this upcoming season.
As general manager Sean Marks holds off on a rebuild, the team hopes the former top overall pick can return to his former self.
