Akira Toriyama’s swan song in the franchise that made him famous is coming in 2024, and we’ve got all the details you need to know about Dragon Ball Daima.
Finally, Goku and the Z Fighters are back for a new anime. After battling gods, Broly, and the annoying Red Ribbon Army again, the team takes on some strange magic in Dragon Ball Daima.
Our beloved heroes are transformed into children for the shonen anime, forcing them to face the mysterious evil in their adorable child forms. It’s all very cute already, extremely in line with Akira’s mix of comedy and action.
As this will be Akira’s last work in the Dragon Ball universe, as he passed away in March 2024, the anticipation is huge for the next anime. So when will you be able to sit down to watch it?
Dragon Ball Daima Release Date
Dragon Ball Daima will premiere on Friday October 11, 2024Episodes will be released weekly.
It came with the show announcement in October 2023, at New York Comic Con. No updates have been released since, although this could be partly related to Akira’s death.
The English dubbed version of the anime will be released in US theaters starting in November 10-12, 2024.
Dragon Ball Daima Trailer
The latest trailer for Dragon Ball Daima has arrived in January 2024and it shows Kid Goku fighting a group of enemies. There is no dialogue, just animation and music, as we see monsters and Goku turning around, ready to face any opponent.
Previous trailers have given us more context on the overall situation. The big bad is hinted at – some kind of sorcerer – and we get to see other heroes, like Piccolo and Vegeta, in their child forms as well.

IGN has released the English dubbed trailer for Dragon Ball Daima on September 24also revealing the anime’s release date in US theaters.
So far, the production looks fluid and boldly colorful, up to the standards of Dragon Ball Super and recent films. Toei Animation is handling everything as usual, and so far, this looks like another strong entry in the franchise.
What will Dragon Ball Daima be about?
Dragon Ball Daima follows Goku and the other heroes as they face off against a new villain on another planet after being transformed into child versions of themselves. It involves the usual amount of martial arts and space antics that you’d expect from Dragon Ball.
We don’t know how complete the cast is yet, but it’s confirmed that Vegeta, Piccolo, Bulma, Yamcha, Chi-Chi, Oolong, Trunks, Goten, Gohan, Android 18, and Krillin will all be involved. They’re all cursed as well, which opens up all sorts of subplots.
Akira Toriyama was involved in the design and creation of Dragon Ball Daima, after returning to full television production in Dragon Ball Super. He played a lesser role in the property after Dragon Ball Z, only contributing some character work to GT.
As such, it should be as over-the-top and epic as his storytelling tends to be. After all, this is his departure now.
Is Dragon Ball Daima canon?
Yes, Dragon Ball Daima is considered canonsince Akira Toriyama created the story. But the exact location in the timeline where it takes place has not been revealed. The most likely answer is between Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super, based on a number of clues like Goku and Vegeta’s costumes not yet being the same as their costumes in Super.
This would mean that Daima would essentially replace GT in the running order, which won’t displease many fans. GT is the black sheep of the franchise, maligned for abandoning much of what we enjoyed about Z in favor of a wacky space comedy starring Kid Goku and his granddaughter Pan that just didn’t work.
Akira hasn’t driven as much as GT, and it shows, and Daima seems to be an attempt to remedy that for itself and for fans. A second attempt with a similar concept – what if the heroes became children? – but with more creative controls and actual combat.
The only downside here is that if Daima crushes GT, it means the story is tied to what happened in Super, so don’t expect any radical deaths or new forms. But moving away from that wouldn’t hurt Dragon Ball either, since power scaling and such has been wacky for years now.
