Teofimo Lopez is ready for a challenging but rewarding fight against Jamaine Ortiz on February 8. Before the Super Bowl, the fight is for Lopez’s WBO and The Ring super lightweight titles. There are still tickets available for the fight on StubHub.
Lopez is a former unified lightweight champion, beating Richard Commey in 2019 for the IBF lightweight title and Vasiliy Lomachenko in 2020 for the WBA, WBO and The Ring belts. After dealing with setbacks following a loss against George Kambosos Jr., he is currently on a three-game winning streak. Lopez last fought in June, beating Josh Taylor to win the WBO and Ring belts.
“The Takeover” is the betting favorite against Ortiz. Although he is confident, Lopez knows how tough Ortiz can be, as they fought in a Golden Gloves event in 2015. Lopez won gold that year.
“Great fighter,” López said of Ortiz via boxing scene. “You know, he and I faced each other in the national Golden Gloves in 2015, in the final. So, I know I have a tough fight ahead of me. You know, it’s not easy. You know, this guy is very elusive. He’s a technician, as they say, so he gave Loma a chance. So I have to stay alert.”

Ortiz is a former NABF lightweight titleholder. He lost to Lomachenko in October 2022, but established himself as a tough challenge for the former champion. “El Técnico” last fought in September, defeating Antonio Morán.
