Two of the toughest fighters with colorful personalities are set to fight each other for the first time since 2019. However, this time, Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal are trading in MMA gloves and a cage for boxing gloves and the ring.

Diaz and Masvidal will meet inside the Kia Forum in California in a ten-round fight at 175 pounds. The fight is presented by Fanmio PPV, which appropriately promoted Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul in 2021.

Diaz made his MMA debut in 2004 and competed for WEC and Strikeforce. Upon joining the UFC in 2007, Diaz won The Ultimate Fighter 5 lightweight tournament. He went 16-11 in the UFC in 27 contests, competing in wars against some of the best fighters out there. Diaz became a household name in 2016 thanks to his rivalry with Conor McGregor, finishing 1-1 against him.

After that series, Díaz fought whenever he wanted. He competed in 2019 against Anthony Pettis and Masvidal, Leon Edwards in 2021 and Tony Ferguson in 2022. Diaz last fought in a boxing match against Jake Paul in August 2023, losing to “The Problem Child” but forcing the YouTuber to use its energy.

Masvidal made his MMA debut in 2003. After competing for promotions such as AFC, Strikeforce, Bellator and World Victory Road, “Gamebred” made his UFC debut in 2013. He went 12-10 in the promotion. His victory against Ben Askren was the fastest knockout in UFC history.

The 39-year-old ended his MMA career with four consecutive losses. He lost to Kamaru Usman in multiple fights for the UFC welterweight title. Masvidal then went all the way against his rival Colby Covington before Gilbert Burns defeated him in a one-sided match in Miami, where he received a standing ovation from all of his fans.

The fight with Masvidal was for the BMF title, and Diaz lost via technical knockout in a fight that Masvidal controlled in the second half. Díaz seeks to regain victory, this time under the rules of boxing.

“Nate is a walking dead man,” Masvidal said. “I can’t wait to prove that last time wasn’t a fluke. The referee saved him. Now we are boxing, which according to him is his strong suit, but he has no chance of beating me. I’m not going to give him an inch in that ring to even breathe. If you thought our MMA fight was bad, this is going to be much worse. I’m going to drown him. I want to put aside any talk that he and I are equals, or that the referee saved the day. All that talk ends June 1. Violence and fistfights are in both of our blood, but as I’ve proven before, I’m a far superior athlete and a meaner fighter. When June 1 comes, I will put aside all the unanswered questions and live for the world to see.”
