Barcelona are confident over agreeing a contract extension with Lamine Yamal this summer.

The 17-year-old has enjoyed a sensational season for Hansi Flick’s side with 18 goals and 23 assists for La Blaugrana as part of their treble-winning 2024/25 campaign.

The teenager has continued his ascent as one of the world’s leading players – despite his tender age – and Barcelona are determined to avoid a drawn out contract saga in the coming months.

However, talks with his agent Jorge Mendes have been stop-start, with no progress made on a renewal since the start of 2025.

Negotiations will be restarted again in June – when Lamine Yamal returns from international duty with Spain – and Barcelona are hopeful of an agreement before he heads off on a summer break.

With no FIFA Club World Cup to focus on this summer, Flick wants his star winger to get some much-needed rest, but the push to tie down his future is strong in Catalonia.

Lamine Yamal’s new Barcelona contract: Salary, length, release clause

Ahead of fresh round of discussions with Mendes and his team, Barcelona sporting director Deco rejected rumours of Lamine Yamal requesting to become the club’s top earner, to reflect his new squad status.

“He hasn’t asked to be the highest-paid player in the squad and I’m not going to talk publicly about player contracts,” as per quotes from Marca.

“Lamine hasn’t asked for anything. His priority isn’t to be the highest-paid player. His contract will be adjusted to reality, but players don’t ask for that.

“The renewal is on the right track. I see Lamine with an incredible level of maturity. We’re happy and enjoying his form, because something like this isn’t normal. A player so young with so much quality isn’t normal.

“We mustn’t forget he’s 17, and no matter how mature you are, you have to live as your age. The world around him is complicated and he has to be happy.

“There’s no better environment or club for him than Barça. Our contract plan is for five to six years.”

Deco also confirmed Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain made an offer for Barcelona’s No.19 last summer but he added Real Madrid did not.

His final comment indicates Barcelona want to extend the new contract from its current expiry in 2026 until 2031 or 2032 with a bumper pay rise.

Who is Barcelona’s highest-earning player?

As per the latest data from football salary experts Capology, Lamine Yamal’s current gross annual salary is around €3.3m [$3.75m], which is approximately €64,000 [$72,000] per week.

His new deal is rumoured to be around double that figure but still keep him within Deco’s claim of not becoming the club’s top earner.

Barcelona’s No.1 is Robert Lewandowski, who earns just over 10x what Lamine Yamal is currently on, with an annual package of €33.3m [$37.6m] which is €641,000 [$724,000] per week.
