Frenkie de Jong has opened up about his future at Barcelona, leaving fans wondering if his days at Camp Nou could be numbered.
Speaking in an interview with Voetbal International, the Dutch midfielder shared his thoughts on his injury struggles, contract situation, and disappointment over Barcelona’s performance during his tenure.
De Jong, whose contract runs until June 2026, has been a vital player for the Blaugrana since his arrival.
But ongoing speculation about his future, combined with recent ankle problems, has put his relationship with the club under the spotlight. Reflecting on his time with Barcelona, De Jong admitted it hasn’t lived up to his expectations.
“When I signed for Barcelona, I didn’t think I’d only have one league title, one Copa del Rey, and one Spanish Super Cup after four years. I expected at least double that,” De Jong said, expressing his disappointment.

On his contract situation, De Jong was blunt. “My renewal is a topic for the newspapers, but not for me,” he stated. “I’ll see what the club wants and decide with my agent and family.”
While De Jong enjoys life in Barcelona, he made it clear that his priority remains competitive football.
“If I felt I couldn’t contribute enough, or if the team couldn’t compete, I would leave,” he said, hinting at a possible exit if circumstances don’t improve.
With limited appearances under Hansi Flick this season and rumors of a potential wage cut or sale, De Jong’s future remains uncertain.
