Fulham appear to be enjoying a proactive transfer window and their next signing represents some pretty smart business.
Fabricius Romano It was first reported that the Cottagers were exploring a deal to bring in free agent Ryan Sessegnon, who has recently been training with Crystal Palace. Romano and others later claimed that the deal was close to being announced.
Sessegnon was a breakout star at Fulham as a teenager and earned himself a £25 million ($30m) move to Tottenham in 2019. Spurs had just played in the UEFA Champions League final and were looking to strengthen their squad to make a big push towards major trophies.
However, for both club and player, the move did not go as planned. Sessegnon only played 57 times in all competitions across five seasons with Spurs and spent the 2020/21 season in the Bundesliga with Hoffenheim. Since the start of February 2023, he has only played seven minutes of professional football and left the club at the end of last season.

What went wrong for Ryan Sessegnon at Tottenham?
Sessegnon joined Tottenham in August 2019 as part of a deal that saw the departure of Josh Onomah, but did not make his official debut until November due to injury. Muscle problems plagued his time at the club from then on.
According to data from Transfer marketSessegnon missed more than 110 games for Spurs due to injury problems, specifically relating to a chronic hamstring issue. The disruption to his first season at the club caused by the COVID-19 pandemic also hampered his development. He only played seven 90-minute games.

The player, who can play in any position on the left wing, was loaned to Hoffenheim for the 2020/21 season and enjoyed an encouraging first few weeks. He was voted the fans’ player of the month for November, and his performances were largely solid despite Hoffenheim winning just two of their first 11 Bundesliga games. He missed over a month at the start of 2021 through injury but started every game in a seven-game unbeaten run to end the season.
However, injury problems persisted. He played just 15 times in the league in 2021/22 during a turbulent time at the club that saw Nuno Espirito Santo and then Antonio Conte take over the reins. He eventually scored his first league goal for Spurs in their 4-1 win over Southampton to start the 2022/23 season, but just as his club career looked to be taking off, he was hit by renewed hamstring problems. Ultimately, he resorted to surgery to fix the persistent problem with his left hamstring, and just as he was close to returning, he had to undergo an operation on his other leg.
In a social media post in February This year, following a setback in his recovery, Sessegnon said he was “devastated beyond belief.” He also implored people to “be careful what they say online” after receiving a barrage of criticism.
Now, Sessegnon will hope to revive his career at the club where he developed as a youth player before exploding onto the senior stage.
