The UEFA European Championship 2024, more commonly known as Euro 2024, will mark the 17th edition of the tournament and will be held in Germany from June 14 to July 14.
Notably, it will be the first time that a reunified Germany hosts the tournament as the sole host nation.
Italy enters the tournament as defending champions, after winning the postponed 2020 edition against England in the Wembley final. That tournament was delayed a year due to COVID-19.

The UEFA Executive Committee decides the venue of the European Championship through a confidential vote, which requires a simple majority of votes to win. In the event of a tie, the UEFA President would have the final say on which country receives the honour.

Which country has welcomed the most euros?
France has hosted the UEFA European Championship three times in total, the most of any country to date.
In fact, Les Bleus were responsible for hosting the inaugural Euro Cup tournament in 1960, which the Soviet Union won.
France subsequently hosted the seventh and fifteenth editions of the tournament in 1984 and 2016, respectively. Although the French have acted as organizers on three occasions, they have only won the competition once, achieving victory when they hosted it in 1984.
How many times has Germany hosted the Euro Cup?
This will be Germany’s second time hosting the championship, with matches being played across the country, including the final in Munich on July 14.
The decision to grant them hosting duties was made in 2018 at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, where Germany beat Turkey in a vote.
For Euro 2024, Germany had numerous stadium options. Ten venues were eventually selected, nine of which were used during the 2006 FIFA World Cup. These included Berlin, Dortmund, Munich, Cologne, Stuttgart, Hamburg, Leipzig, Frankfurt and Gelsenkirchen.
Has a host country ever won the European Championship?
Throughout the history of the UEFA European Championship, the host countries have generally performed well.
Three countries won the European Championship by hosting the tournament: Spain in 1964, Italy in 1968 and France in 1984.
Additionally, two other host nations reached the final but ended up losing: Portugal in 2004 (to Greece) and France in 2016 (to Portugal).
Italy is the only team to have won the tournament as a co-host in 2021. The 16th edition of the European Championship was spread across 11 countries and the final was played at Wembley.
