The Seattle Seahawks have just announced some list movements Ahead of tomorrow’s Week 3 home game against the Miami Dolphins, the Seahawks announced that right tackle George Fant has been placed on injured reserve after suffering a knee injury in the team’s season-opening win over the Denver Broncos.
McClendon Curtis, who was recently signed to the practice squad, will replace Fant on the 53-man roster. Here’s what that means for the Seahawks heading into Week 3 and beyond.
Right tackle is a disaster again
For the second straight season, the team’s right tackle situation has been a disaster due to injuries. In 2022, it seemed like signing former Washington State tackle Abe Lucas would solve the team’s need at the position and give them a solid long-term starter. Unfortunately, Lucas had a knee injury from his college days that resurfaced and forced him to miss 11 games last year. Lucas underwent surgery in the offseason and began the season on the PUP list.
The Seahawks signed Fant as an insurance policy, but it backfired. With Fant placed on injured reserve, he’ll also be out for at least the next four games. For now, Stone Forsythe will continue to fill in for him as it’s unclear when Lucas might return to the lineup. Forsythe’s pass protection improved slightly from last season, but his run blocking declined and his overall PFF grade is almost exactly the same as it was in 2023 so far.
It will be up to offensive line coach Scott Huff to find a solution to this problem, and we wish him luck in that endeavor.
Seahawks practice squad moves
Seattle also made some changes to its practice squad. Inside linebacker Patrick O’Connell and outside linebacker Tyus Boswer earned standard elevations to the game-day roster for this week. Additionally, safety Marquise Blair was re-signed to the practice squad to take Curtis’ spot.
