The New York Giants officially announced the signing of free agent cornerback Adoree’ Jackson on Saturday.
In a corresponding movement, the Giants release veteran guard Jakob Johnson for the second time since the initial 53-man list was released last week.
Johnson will likely be the subject of roster moves whenever the Giants need to clear cap space for an additional player.
It wouldn’t be surprising if they added him back to the practice squad, which they did earlier this week when he was part of roster cuts to reduce the roster to 53 players.
Jackson’s arrival gives the secondary a little more depth at cornerback, but there are still plenty of question marks surrounding the group entering the new season.
Even with his late return after spending the offseason and preseason as a free agent, Jackson will likely be the starting cornerback opposite second-year defensive end Deonte Banks.
It’s unclear what his role will be in the Week 1 game against the Minnesota Vikings, but he’ll likely be involved in some capacity, if not a starter in the opener.
