GTA 6 has been a long time coming. It’s been over 10 years since the last installment of the popular Grand Theft Auto series, and after all the wait, Rockstar has given us our first look at what is sure to be one of the biggest games in history. The new features of GTA 6 are finally on the way and will be launched in 2025.
The first trailer for GTA 6 debuted in December and confirms much of what has been rumored for months: a Vice City setting (GTA’s version of Miami) and an introduction to the game’s main characters, the first female protagonist of the series. .
To date, the trailer above is the only official look at the game we have. Rockstar will be working on a carefully considered information rollout, but those plans went a bit awry in late 2022 after a hacker illegally accessed and downloaded sensitive data from the developer’s servers that included more than 90 unfinished gameplay videos. The breach was confirmed by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier who spoke to a confidential source who says the event is a “nightmare for Rockstar.”
In a letter to the public, Rockstar says it is “extremely disappointed” with the data leak, but says that work on GTA 6 will continue as planned and that the company will soon have more to share about the game’s development. Naturally, we won’t be sharing links to any of the leaked images below as they were obtained illegally.
Fortunately, the 90-second trailer reveals plenty of juicy details to discuss, but we’ve also compiled the latest rumors around the web to put together this article; Just keep in mind that we’ve indulged in a bit of speculation to fill in some of the blanks.

GTA 6: rumors about the release date
As confirmed in the trailer, Rockstar Games is targeting a 2025 release window, seemingly confirming the hint of a big release coming around March 2025.
We’ve always been cautious about predicting GTA 6’s release sometime in 2024, and now we have confirmation that it’s still more than a year away.
We may not have to wait much more than a year, however, as a recent Take-Two earnings call suggested that GTA developer Rockstar’s parent company is expected to see a significant increase in revenue in its fiscal year 2025 (ending March 31). 2025). Could this be an indication that GTA 6 is scheduled for release in early 2025?
However, don’t take this as confirmation that we’ll be playing GTA 6 early next year; In the same report, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick stated: “We strive for perfection and when we have optimized [GTA 6]”So it’s clear that Take-Two won’t make Rockstar release GTA 6 until it has a highly polished experience.
GTA 6: Platforms
in a Press release which appeared alongside the first trailer for GTA 6, Take-Two (Rockstar’s parent company) confirms that the game is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series that those consoles will be 12 years old when GTA 6 launches in 2025.
Curiously, the press release does not mention the game’s arrival on PC. This lines up with a recent rumor suggesting that the PC port of the game will be delayed by another year after its console counterpart. So we might not be playing GTA 6 on one of the best gaming PCs until 2026, or the game could skip the PC altogether.
GTA 6: Character and story leaks
The first trailer for GTA 6 seems to introduce us to the new protagonists of the game, a “Bonnie and Clyde” style criminal couple. We know that the female half will be named Lucia, but her male partner currently has no name. As for the narrative beats, there’s no doubt you’ll indulge in the usual mix of crimes and heists with some insight into the strange lives of the heroes and villains. And this time there also seems to be a big focus on phishing on social media.
A leak from last year claimed that we would be getting a story similar to the Netflix series Narcos, heavily focused on gang and cartel operations on both sides of the US-Mexico border through the eyes of a player character named Ricardo (could this be? our anonymous male character).
Earlier this year, a leak claimed that the story would revolve around a Latina protagonist involved in a “Bonnie and Clyde”-style plot. Considering the firm details revealed in the first trailer, this leak could seemingly be legitimate, as it matches up nicely with the few images we have to date.
In September 2022 there was a massive leak of 90 videos from a hacker showing initial test footage of GTA 6. Rockstar has since confirmed that the leaked footage was authentic. While we covered the leak, we did not reveal any information from the videos given how these details were obtained.
GTA 6: Settings
GTA 6 will take place in Vice City. This location was first introduced in the series in 2002’s GTA: Vice City and is essentially the franchise’s satirical version of Miami, Florida.
While the original Vice City was set in the ’80s, with a fitting soundtrack full of iconic tunes, it looks like GTA 6 will keep the events set in the present day. The first trailer shows off a variety of the latest technologies, including smartphones and live streaming.
We also expect GTA 6 to explore beyond the borders of Vice City with a larger map that incorporates the Florida Everglades and even smaller towns spread across the central hub that will be Vice City.
In fact, super-sleuthing Reddit users have already been figuring out how big the map is based on split-second screenshot clips from the trailer.

GTA 6 online
GTA V has enjoyed a long life after its original release in 2013 thanks to the regularly updated GTA Online mode. This allows you to play a wide variety of game modes or simply roam freely around the map with other players, earning money that you can then spend on cars, clothing, weapons, and housing for players.
It’s almost certain that we’ll see a sequel arrive alongside GTA 6. However, the two experiences may end up separate. GTA Online originally arrived a month after the release of the single-player portion of the game, and with consoles now able to install specific parts of a game rather than the entire package, Rockstar may decide to separate the two.
Either way, hopefully there will be some way for veteran GTA Online players to transfer their winnings and in-game items to the new game. Rockstar has made a lot of money from players spending money on microtransactions in GTAO, and no doubt some players don’t want all of this to go away with the move to a new generation.
GTA 6 Pre-Orders
Many players were probably sold on GTA 6 even before the first trailer appeared. The franchise is one of the most important in all of entertainment and any installment will sell very well. No wonder many people are already asking where they can pre-order GTA 6 right now.
There are currently no details on pre-orders for GTA 6, but we expect that to change sometime in 2024. There may be a fancy collector’s edition, as well as a host of digital extras for those who commit their money before launch. We’ll keep you posted once we have firm GTA 6 pre-order details.
