The 2024 edition of UEFA’s flagship international tournament is coming to Germany this summer and they are ready to welcome the rest of Europe.
Euro 2024 will take place from Friday 14 June to Sunday 14 July 2024, with the final culminating the month-long football extravaganza at Berlin’s Olympiastadion.
With the tournament almost around the corner, The Jugo Mobile answers some of your burning questions, including how many teams will be at Euro 2024.
How many teams will play in Euro 2024?
There will be a total of 24 countries competing at Euro 2024, including hosts Germany, who will be seeking their fourth victory in the tournament.
Italy is the current champion after its penalty shootout victory against England at Euro 2020, which was held in several countries in 2021 after being postponed for a year due to COVID-19.
After surviving a scare during qualifying, the Azzurri will defend their title in this summer’s finals.
France and England are two of the other nations expected to compete for the trophy, after quickly advancing through the standings, as are Portugal and Belgium, who also looked in dominant form.
As always, Spain will be among the favorites for glory after qualifying, while Scotland will also be in the main tournament.

Qualification process for Euro 2024
Due to congestion on the traditional football calendar caused by the move of the Qatar World Cup to winter last year, Euro 2024 featured a condensed initial qualifying campaign that ran from March 2023 to November 2023. Play-offs then took place in March 2024. Normally, the initial qualifying phase for the European Championship takes more than a year to finish.
A total of 53 UEFA member associations were pided into six pots before being pided into 10 groups. The top two teams from each of the 10 groups automatically advanced to the European Championship final, with the remaining three places decided through play-offs, for which teams qualified through their performance in the UEFA Nations League.
Germany automatically qualified for the Euro as hosts. Heavyweights France, Belgium and Portugal were among the first teams to book their tickets for Germany.
England did the same and want to go all the way. Scotland also made it to the Euros, along with Spain, as both qualified in Group A.
Poland and Ukraine joined the tournament via the play-off route, along with debutants Georgia, who will be making their first appearance in a major international tournament.
How often are euros?
The tournament has been held every four years, since the inaugural competition in 1960, a cycle similar to that of the World Cup, which also has a quadrennial rotation.
The only exception to that rule was the 2020 edition of the tournament, which was held in several European cities and was played a year later than planned in 2021, due to the global coronavirus pandemic. Despite this change, it kept its original name.
