Can I add multiple destinations to Apple Maps?
Yes. This feature is available in Apple Maps with the release of iOS 16. You can add up to 15 locations in a route. Depending on what you want to achieve, you can add a “pit stop” to your route, use shortcuts, or even create guides.
How to Add Multiple Destinations in Apple Maps on iPhone
Instead of programming your Apple Maps with multiple destinations, you’ll take advantage of the “Pit Stop” option to serve as an additional destination. To add a pit stop in the iPhone app, follow these steps:
- Launch Apple Maps and enter your destination.

- touch the blue Directions buttonso Go. The app will present your route.

- Swipe up on the route card at the bottom of your iPhone screen.

- Tap Add stop and choose a category (Coffee, Lunch, Gas Station, etc.).
Your iPhone will offer you several scaling options. Unfortunately, you can only choose one from the list. Custom pit stops are not available in Apple Maps unless they are included in a future update.
You can also use Siri to add your Pit Stop instead of following the steps above. Use this method while driving to stay safe:
- Activate Siri by calling “Hey Siri.”
- Indicate the pit stop category you want to add, for example, “Add Coffee.”
- Choose your pit stop while Siri reads the options. Reject an option by answering “No” and accept it by answering “Yes.”
You can also delete your pit stop at any time by pressing the “Resume route” option at the top of the screen.
How to Add Multiple Destinations in Apple Maps on an iPad
Adding a pit stop to your route on an iPad involves similar steps as on the iPhone:
- Open Apple Maps and choose your destination.

- Tap Addresses and then Go.

- Invoke the route card by swiping up and selecting Add stop.

- Choose a category and Maps will give you numerous options for your stopover.
How to Add Multiple Destinations in Apple Maps on Mac
If you want to plan your route on your Mac, do the following:
- Open the Maps app on your Mac.

- Find the destination you want to visit and click on it to bring up your place card.

- Find Create route and edit your start and end points if necessary.

- Click Plan and adjust your travel time if you wish.

Unfortunately, you can’t add a pit stop to your route on your Mac. However, you can easily send your route plan to your iPhone and add it there. Once you’ve planned your route, simply click the share button and send it to your device.
How to add multiple destinations using location-based reminders
Siri may be able to help you create a multi-destination route in addition to simply adding a pit stop. You will need to create location-based reminders to use this method. This is a great solution if you don’t have time to reprogram your maps while you run your errands. You will use the Shortcuts app for this.
- Open shortcuts.

- Click Create personal automation.

- Choose Arrive and choose the location from where you want to get directions to a new destination.

- Tap Next and search Show addresses.

- Schedule your destination here and you’ll be ready to go.

How to use guides to plan routes
Using Guides is another way to bring multiple destinations together in one place and make navigation in Apple Maps easier. You can create personalized guides with all the places you want to visit. Here we explain how to do it on your iPhone:
- Tap a place you plan to visit.

- Swipe up the place card and find the Save to… button.

- Add the location to an existing folder or create a new one with the New Guide button.

- Name your Guide and that’s it.

You can access these folders by opening your Maps app and swiping up on the search card. Your Guides are located at the bottom. If you can’t see your new Guide, tap the See everything option. Saving these destinations in advance will make it easier to plan routes between them while traveling.

While adding multiple destinations to create your personalized itinerary would delight Apple users, this feature is still missing from Apple Maps. However, you can use pit stops or schedule your itinerary with the help of location-based reminders to achieve a similar result. The former is an easy way to do quick scaling, while the latter allows for greater precision.
