Initially, you could tell your professional story by listing the positions you have held, even if they are all linked to the same company. But now you can show your career progression by grouping consecutive positions you have held in the same company. By grouping multiple positions, you organize your profile and show the rest of your functions at other companies.

Add multiple positions in the same company as a group

Adding your roles at a company makes your LinkedIn look more organized while also showing how you’ve advanced your career and skills. Unfortunately, there are some restrictions related to this feature.

You can only group positions within a company if the end date of one position and the start date of the other are one month apart. Additionally, if you hold two positions at the same company simultaneously, LinkedIn will group them together.

For example, if your Associate Project Manager role ended in March 2023 and you become a Project Manager in April 2023, LinkedIn will automatically group the two together. On the other hand, LinkedIn will enter the two positions separately if two or more months have passed before starting the next role.

This is how you add positions as a group:

1. Go to your LinkedIn home page and tap the “Profile” icon in the top right corner. Choose “View Profile.” Alternatively, navigate to the left sidebar and tap your hyperlinked name below your profile photo.
   
2. Scroll to the “Experience” p and tap the “Add” icon on the right. Select “Add position”.
   
3. Enter the job title and company name. Employment type, location, and location type are optional. When entering the company name, type the name and select it from the drop-down menu.
   
4. Uncheck the box next to “I am currently working in this position” if this is the position you previously held.
   
5. Choose start and end dates.
   
6. Enter the industry you work in. Under the industry p, write a description of his role.
   
7. Add your skills and means for the position and tap “Save.” Repeat the process for the second and subsequent roles, ensuring that the start date and end date of one role and the start date of the other are one month apart.
   
8. If you have a current position with the company, instead of entering the end date, check the “I am currently working in this position” box.
   

After you fill all positions, LinkedIn will display your company name and logo once for all positions you’ve held, from most recent to oldest.

Add multiple positions in the same company separately

Adding multiple positions in the same company separately becomes an option if the break between roles exceeds a month. This is how you do it:

1. Open your LinkedIn profile and go to the “Experience p.”
   
2. Tap the “Add” icon on the right and select “Add Position” to start adding your first company role.
   
3. Enter all the necessary details of the role as explained in steps three to six of the above method. When you finish entering the details of the first role, tap “Save.” Start entering the details of the second role and repeat the process for the other roles. This time, you don’t have to worry if the dates are a month apart.
   
4. When you’re done, go to the “Experience” p of your profile. You’ll see the company name and logo for each position you’ve added.

Advantages

• Adds clarity to your experience p – at a glance, someone can see your entire tenure with a company. They can find out how long you’ve worked there and see all the roles you’ve held and for how long without having to scroll down to make confirmations.
• You can show your career advancement: Grouping your positions chronologically from oldest to most recent shows how your skills have evolved. This is beneficial for employers who want employees willing to take on new challenges.
• Leave room for other career highlights: Because the company logo doesn’t have to appear for every position you add, you can keep your experience p concise. Don’t risk posting other highlights below, where potential employers can easily overlook them.

Cons

• Grouping only occurs for roles that are one month apart – LinkedIn adds separate roles at the same company that are more than a month apart as inpidual entries.
• Grouping will not happen if you make a mistake in the company name: If you misspell the company name, the roles will appear as separate entries.
• You have no grouping control: You can’t manually group multiple positions in the same company because LinkedIn has automated the process.

• It makes your profile repetitive and long: each position is given the company name and logo. This adds monotony to your profile and causes positions in other companies to go down even further. If an employer wants a scannable profile, they will leave out yours.
• Your profile may not tell a compelling career story: When you list positions separately, presenting a coherent narrative of your career progression within the company can be more challenging. The viewer may need to reconstruct the different roles to understand their impact and growth.
