Text color in Google Slides engages your audience and can improve their concentration throughout your presentation. For example, if you use a bright text color on a bright background, there will be less contrast and your text will be invisible. If your audience can’t read your slides, they won’t get much out of your presentation. For that reason, knowing how to change the text color in Google Slides is of utmost importance.
There are several ways to change the color of text in Google Slides. This article will help you improve the visual appeal of your slides.
How to change text color in Google Slides
There are countless benefits to using unique text colors on your slides. First, a text color that contrasts well with the background makes the text readable, allowing your audience to capture the content at a glance.
Text color also helps emphasize key words or important details. For businesses, using text colors that align with your brand makes your presentation consistent and professional.
Method one: use the Format menu
Here are the methods you can use to change the color of Google Slides text on your desktop:
- Launch your Chrome browser and sign in to your Google account.

- Navigate to “Google App” in the top right corner and select “Google Slides” from the apps.

- When Google Slides loads, tap the “Add” sign to create new presentation slides or open an existing presentation.

- After adding text to your slides, go to the first slide and highlight the text with the color you want to edit.

- Navigate to the toolbar menu at the top and tap “Format.”

- In the drop-down menu that appears, tap “Text.” This will open another dropdown menu on the right. If the text option is grayed out, you haven’t highlighted the text.

- Scroll down and tap “Color.” This will display the default colors available in Google Slides.

- Tap the color you want to apply to your text and that’s it. Repeat the process for other slides.

Make a custom color
If you can’t find the color you want among the default colors, you can create your custom text color as follows:
- Open your presentation slide and select the text whose color you want to edit.

- Tap the “Format” menu and select “Text.” Press “Color” from the drop-down menu.

- Go to the custom action on the color screen and press the “Plus” icon. This will open a rectangular color picker from which you can select your colors.

- There are three methods you can use to choose your colors:
- Using the hex code: If you know the hex code or the six digits of the color you want, go to the hex p and enter it in the three boxes provided. Press “OK” when you finish applying the color to your text.
- Using the hue slider: Below the color picker, you’ll see a bar with different colors. Press and hold, then move the slider until you find the desired color.
- Using the Eyedropper: If you have the color you want to apply to your text in the slide theme, tap the “Eyedropper” (looks like a syringe) below the color picker. This will take you back to the slide. Move the eyedropper to the color you want and tap it to select it in the color picker. Press “OK” to apply it to your text.
Method two: use the toolbar menu
- Open the presentation whose text color you want to edit or tap the “Add” button to create a new presentation.

- When your slides are ready, go to the first slide and highlight the text you want to edit in color.

- In the toolbar menu, tap the “A” button with a colored bar below it. If you can’t see it, press the “More options” menu (three vertical dots) in the top right corner and locate it from there.

- Choose the color you want to apply on the screen to the highlighted text.

- If you can’t find the color you want, go to the custom p and tap the “More” button. Proceed as explained above to create your custom text color.
Method three: use the master slide
If you have many slides, manually editing the text color of each one can be time-consuming. Fortunately, you can use the master slide to duplicate text color edits on other slides.
- Prepare the slides whose color you want to edit.
- Navigate to the toolbar at the top and tap “View.”

- Select “Theme Builder” from the drop-down menu. This will open the master view.

- Press “Master Slide” (the first one in the left side panel) to start editing.

- To change the color of your title text, select “Click to edit theme title style.” Go to the “Color” menu (A) on the toolbar and choose the color you want.

- To edit the subtitle color, highlight “First Level” and choose the color you want from the “Color” menu in the toolbar.

- Select “Second Level” for the normal text color and choose the color you want from the “Color” menu on the toolbar.

- Press the “Exit” button (X) in the upper right corner to exit the master view. When you return to your slide, the color edits will be applied.

What to remember when changing the text color in Google Slides
In addition to creating valuable and informative content to capture your audience’s attention, you should also consider how you use text color.
- Readable on the slide background: If the background is dark, use a bright text color and vice versa to create contrast. Your text will be easy to read and understand.
- Use three colors maximum: Too many colors can make your slide look unprofessional and cluttered. Stick to a few colors and be consistent with them across all slides.
- Prioritize readability over aesthetics: Although you may want to use colors to evoke emotions and create a specific mood, you should not use them at the expense of your content. You must balance delivering valuable content and making it visually interesting.
