It’s an understatement to say that YouTube comments have a bad reputation on the Internet. They tend to be seen as inflammatory, crass and useless.
If you’re lucky, it’s possible to have valuable discussions on YouTube. You can find thoughtful or moving discussions about videos you like. Some channels have a dedicated community of enthusiastic commentators.
But it’s too easy to get into useless arguments on this platform. You are likely to come across people who argue in bad faith. Violent language is difficult to avoid. There are also a lot of marketing bots that leave irrelevant comments.
All in all, it’s no wonder that many people get fed up with YouTube comments. If this is your case, you may want to delete all comments made on this platform, or if you are a content creator, you can delete comments that others have left on your channel.
Get rid of all the comments you have made on YouTube
It’s easy to delete comments you’ve left on any YouTube channel. The only exception is comments made before Google took over YouTube in 2006.
How do you view and delete your comments? Here are two approaches you can take.
Use your comment history
To see all the comments you’ve made on this site, go to your YouTube Comment history page.
To delete an inpidual comment, do the following:
- Find the comment in your history.

Hide your channel
YouTube gives you the option to hide your channel. This is a temporary measure and hides your content, your name, as well as your subscriptions and likes. You can re-enable the channel at any time. Hiding your channel doesn’t affect anything you do with your Google Account on other platforms.
But when you go through this process, there is an unexpected silver lining. All comments you have ever made will be deleted. Unlike the other changes, this removal is permanent.
Just keep your channel hidden for a few minutes. When you re-enable it, all your previous comments will disappear. What steps should you follow to hide your YouTube channel?
- Sign in to YouTube. If you have multiple accounts, make sure you are logged in with the correct one.
- Click on Your profile. Select your profile photo in the upper right corner of the screen.
- Click on Advanced account.
- Scroll down and select the Delete channel.When you select this option, you may need to re-enter your Google Account address and password. Clicking this button will not delete your channel permanently.
- Select I want to hide my channel. On some versions of YouTube, the same option may be labeled “I want to hide my content.”

- Check all options on the list. The listing notes that comments made directly with Google+ will not be deleted. But other than that, hiding your channel will permanently delete all your YouTube comments from all channels. Your likes and subscriptions are only temporarily hidden. When you have reviewed the checklist, click HIDE MY CHANNEL.
This is all you have to do to get rid of your comments. Now is the time to reactivate your account:
- Sign up Youtube with your Google account.

- Locate the video and reveal the comments.
- Play the three vertical points.
- Select Report in the pop-up menu.
- Choose one of the following options.
- Tap Report in the bottom corner of the pop-up window.
The following are your options for reporting content:
- Unwanted ads, content or spam
- Pornography or explicit materials.
- Hate or graphic speech
- Harassment or intimidation
You may not have the same options for removing comments as you would if you were the poster, but YouTube tries to protect others from harmful speech.
