Snapchat keeps track of everyone you take photos, chat with, or add to the “Recent” section. However, this record can sometimes be inconvenient to keep, especially if you chat with many people or there is a record that you don’t want your partner to see.

While some may feel comfortable knowing that the app automatically deletes Snaps and Chats, others know that there is always a record.
Find out how to delete Recents from your Snapchat history and have a clean slate.
How to delete recents from Snapchat on iPhone
Deleting the “Recents” section of your Snapchat means deleting your history. If you don’t have a “History” section, you also won’t have “Recents” to list. Start by cleaning up your conversations:
- Open the “Snapchat app.”

- Play the “gear icon” (Settings).

- Scroll down to the “Account Actions” section and select “Clear conversations.”

- Delete inpidual conversations by tapping the “X” to the right of each conversation

- Delete all conversations at once by tapping the “Clear” option near the top of the screen (optional)

- You can also do a deeper clean by deleting your Snapchat search history. Go to the “Profile screen” and touch the “gear icon” (Settings).

- Tap on “Clear search history.”

- Confirm the action by tapping “Clear.”

How to delete recent photos from Snapchat on Android
Snapchat’s “Recents” section is simply a list of your app activity, from conversations to snaps. You can’t delete the list, but you can delete conversations and search history.
To delete recent Snapchat conversations:
- Open “Snapchat.”

- Play the “Gear icon” menu (Settings).

- Scroll down and select “Clear conversations.”

- Play the “X” next to each conversation you want to delete. You can also select the “Clear” option near the top of the screen to delete them all.

To delete your Snapchat “search” history:
- Come back to “Settings” menu.

- Scroll down and select “Clear search history.”

- Confirm the action by tapping “Well.”

How to delete recents from Snapchat on Windows and Mac
If you have access to Snapchat on Windows or Mac, you probably do so through an emulator. There is no other way to use the app without Android or iOS. And unlike other social media apps, it doesn’t have a dedicated web page for browsers.
You can try to clear your chat and search history by following the steps mentioned above, but there is no guarantee that it will work. Snapchat is for use on a mobile device, so its emulator simulation may be a little “iffy.” If this doesn’t work, you may have to take your mobile device and try deleting Recents the old fashioned way.
How to delete recent and best friends on Snapchat
Snapchat “best friends” are simply the people the app sees you interact with the most. They are marked with emojis after you spend some time interacting with them.
Like deleting Recents, Snapchat doesn’t allow users to delete people from Best Friends. You have to do it in a detour. Here are some options:
- Interact less with them.
- Increase the levels of interaction with other people, so that another name replaces theirs.
- Stop sending and receiving snaps with the person.
- Block and unblock them in the app to reset your score.
If you want to go the extra mile and clear the Recents section they may appear in, you can delete your Conversations and search history.
Recent Snapchat FAQs

What exactly do streaks and recent streaks mean on Snapchat?
Have you seen the fire emoji next to a friend’s name? That means you and your friend are on a Snapstreak streak. Snapstreaks occur when you and that friend Snap together for more than three consecutive days, with less than 24 hours between each Snap. Chats do not count when accumulating points towards a streak. On the other hand, Recents is a list of everyone you’ve interacted with or added, including through Snaps and Chats. Think of it as a virtual scrapbook of all your Snapchat interactions, while streaks commemorate a more specific type of interaction.
How do you view old Snapchat conversations?
Snapchat automatically deletes chats sent one by one right after both users open them and leave the chat. You have up to 24 hours if you change the deletion rules in Chat Settings, but that’s it. The app’s servers also automatically delete unopened chats after 30 days. However, you can keep/save them by holding down Chat. Therefore, you will not be able to read old conversations unless you have already saved them within the allotted time.
How do you delete your Snapchat history?
To clear your Snapchat history, go to the “Settings” menu by tapping the “gear icon” on the “Profile” screen. Scroll down and select “Clear search history” and confirm the action.
How long do Recents stay on Snapchat?
Snapchat recents remain as long as you have an account. The app records all interactions even if the actual Snaps and Chats no longer exist.
Be careful when shooting
One of the advantages of using Snapchat is ephemeral interactions, but remember that all data is recorded. And you can’t always press the Delete button to get it back.
