Discord has many interesting features that make it unique and practical. One of its best features is screen sharing, which allows your friends and teammates to see your screen in real time.
A common problem with Discord screen sharing is that the audio sometimes doesn’t work. In this article, we will show you how to fix this problem. We’ll also include easy solutions for other screen sharing problems.
How to fix Discord screen sharing
Before you begin, keep in mind that screen sharing does not depend on your webcam. Shows your computer screen in real time. Screen sharing audio may refuse to work even when the image is clear.
When that happens, you first need to make sure your Internet connection is stable. Next, try restarting Discord and sharing your screen again. If the problem persists, restart your device. Also, make sure your device’s system is updated.
On a Windows computer, type “check for updates” in the Start menu (press the Win key on your keyboard) and select the option with the same name. The next screen will tell you whether your system is updated or not. Click the Download option if an update is available.
If your operating system is not causing the problem, the culprit could be an outdated audio driver.
Update or reinstall your audio driver
The most common reason for any audio problem is outdated or corrupted drivers. You can quickly check if that’s the case:
- Press the Windows and R keys simultaneously on your keyboard.
- Enter devmgmt.msc in the search field and press Enter.
- The device manager will open. Select the Audio tab.
- Highlight the audio hardware and right click on it. Then choose Uninstall device.
- Right-click on the device manager screen and choose Scan for hardware changes.
- Your computer should detect all audio hardware and install the initial drivers. Reboot when setup is complete.
This solution helps with corrupted audio drivers. If your audio driver is not updated, you need to update it:
- Tap the Windows key on your keyboard and type “device manager” in the search field. Select the first item that appears.
- Go to the Audio tab and find your audio device.
- Right click on the audio device and choose the Update driver option.
Discord related fixes
The problem with screen sharing may be in Discord. Make sure you have given the app all the permissions it requested, especially microphone access. You can also check it on your computer:
- Press the Win key and search for Microphone Privacy Settings.
- Click on the first item that appears.
- Scroll down to the Allow desktop apps to access your microphone tab and make sure it is turned on.
You don’t need to give Discord microphone access inpidually on Windows, but you do on mobile devices. If you are not sure whether you gave it access or not, you can reinstall the app. Visit to the officer Discord app download page and select the appropriate download link for your device. Reinstall Discord and see if the screen sharing issue persists.
Use Push to Talk
A simple but effective solution to many Discord problems is to use push-to-talk, instead of continuous voice activation for chatting. Here’s how to enable it:
- Launch the Discord app on your device.
- Find your username at the bottom left of the home screen. Click on the Settings option next to your name.
- Click the Voice & Video tab and select Push to Talk input mode.
- Customize the shortcut button below. The push-to-talk release delay is pretty decent at its default settings. The changes will take effect immediately.
You can also reset voice settings from this menu (bottom of page) in case push to talk doesn’t help.
Add game activity
Another interesting trick for Discord settings is to manually add the activity you are currently doing. In most cases, Discord will detect your activity automatically, but to be safe, here’s how to add it:
- Start Discord.
- Enter the Settings menu.
- Click the Activity Status tab.
- If you see “no game detected!” At the top of the screen, click Add it! Button below.
- Finally, select an activity from the drop-down menu and press Add game.
Start Discord in administrator mode
As a last resort, you can try running Discord in administrator mode. Follow the steps:
- Find the Discord folder and right-click on the Discord.exe file.
- Then choose Properties.
- Click on the Compatibility option.
- Finally, enable Run this program as administrator and click Apply.
If nothing seems to help resolve screen sharing issues, make sure Discord is the only app using your microphone. Close all other applications and try sharing your screen again. Also, try disabling your firewall and antivirus software as they can sometimes interfere.
