Echo Show is a handy little device that fits perfectly into any home. Thanks to its versatile design, it blends in with your decor while offering a wide range of different features.
You can turn this device into a photo frame, check the weather or see the latest news. However, some people simply want the device to stay on the watch screen and not rotate to all those other graphics cards.
Although there is no way for an Echo Show to constantly display the clock, there is a method that will make this card appear much more frequently than before. Let’s find out how.
First method: limit the rotation of graphics cards
Your Echo Show is set to constantly rotate display cards. Although you can’t permanently disable rotation, you can set it to occur only once.
When the screen changes to all the different display cards, it will return to the watch screen and stay there until you activate it again.
You can limit screen rotation through the device settings menu. This is what you should do:
- Swipe down from the top of your Echo Show screen to display the quick access bar.
- Select the “Settings” (gear) icon at the top right of the bar.

- Tap the “Home Screen” menu from the list.

- Select “Home Screen Preferences.”
- Tap “Rotate Once” in the “Rotation” section.
When you do this, scroll down and make sure all items in the “Displayed startup cards” section are disabled. This ensures that no screen other than the watch rotates multiple times.
Now go back to the home screen and wait for the display cards to continue changing until they return to the clock. The screen should stop there and not move until you activate it with your finger or voice command.
Second method: activate “Do not disturb”
The “Do Not Disturb” feature on Echo Show will prevent all notifications and alerts coming from Amazon Alexa. This means you won’t know if there are any incoming calls or new messages, but most importantly your screen won’t change.
When you activate this mode, the screen will instantly return to the watch screen and will remain that way until you deactivate it. It obviously has its limitations, but it’s the best way to ensure your Echo Show stays on the clock screen.
To enable the feature, you can say “Alexa, do not disturb me” or “Alexa, do not disturb” and the screen should change immediately. Alternatively, you can do this from the Alexa app itself:
- Launch the Alexa app on your smart device.
- Tap the “Menu” icon located at the top left.
- Select “Settings.”

- Go to the “Device Settings” menu.

- Choose your Echo Show from the list of devices.
- Tap “Do Not Disturb.”

- Turn on the switch.

From this screen, you can schedule “Do Not Disturb” mode for a specific period of the day. This can be useful during off hours when you don’t want to receive any alerts. In turn, you can always keep track of the time from the Echo Show screen.
Are you irritated by constant scrolling?
Are you frustrated by the constant displacement of graphics cards? Is this why you want Echo Show to stay on the watch screen? Unfortunately, besides the two options above, there is no other way to stop scrolling. You have to turn it at least once, and Do Not Disturb mode limits all other functions.
That said, you can simply turn off the Echo Show’s screen and go about your business while still receiving all important messages and calls. Simply say “Alexa, turn off the screen” and the screen will go completely dark.
You may not keep the watch-only display on the device, but at least the rotating cards won’t bother you while you need to focus on other things. Plus, you can still listen to music and issue commands while the screen is dark.
There is no permanent solution for moving clock
As you can see, there is no easy or permanent way to make your Echo Show stay on the clock. Still, this does not mean that you cannot fix the problem with one of the methods explained above.
As long as the device remains idle, you can enjoy the watch-only screen. Even if you use the device for some time, let it rotate and it will eventually return to the watch screen. In general, until Amazon releases a feature that allows you to display only the watch screen, you’ll have to make do with these options.
