Many of us have found ourselves blocked from a social media account like Instagram before. Although there is usually a way to reset your password, logging back into your account if you forgot your Instagram password information can sometimes be tricky.
Fortunately, Instagram offers several alternative login methods that can help you when you can’t remember the magic word. Here’s what you should do if you forgot your password and are having trouble accessing your feed.
Reset your password via email
If you know the email address you used to create your Instagram account and can access your inbox, resetting your password won’t take more than a few seconds. Follow these steps.
- Start Instagram to iPhone either Android.
- Find the have you forgotten your password? option on iPhone or tap Get help signing in on Android phones.
- Make sure you are on the “Username” tab on the next screen. If so, you will need to enter your username or email address. Make sure you type it correctly and tap Next.
- Select Send an e-mail.
- If you entered the correct details, you will receive an email with instructions on how to return to your account. Tap the reset link in the email and you can create a new password without having to enter the old one.
Use your phone number
You don’t need to use your email address to reset your Instagram password. If you added your phone number to your Instagram account, logging back in will be a breeze. Follow the steps below.
- Open Instagram for iPhone or Android and the login screen will appear.

- If you have linked your phone, tap the “Phone” tab at the top and enter your number. You will receive a login code to return to your account.
- If you have used the Facebook option, tap Sign in with Facebook and enter your Facebook login information to access your Instagram.
Check your saved passwords
If you have ever logged into your Instagram account through Google Chrome, there is a chance that your password is saved. Try to find your password on your mobile as follows.
- Open Google Chrome in you iPhone either Android and touch the three vertical points next to the address bar.
- Select Settingsso Passwords. All your stored passwords will be on this page.
- Tap Instagram in the list. Your password may be stored there.
If it is not there, it means that your password was not saved.
Lastly, if you can see the dots representing your password in the password space, pressing the eye icon next to it will reveal your password. You may need to enter your PIN code before you can view it.
