After the incredible success of Peter Jackson’s epic documentary “Get Back,” it was only a matter of time before Michael Lindsay-Hogg’s original 1970 “Let It Be” was restored and re-released for a new generation of Beatles fans. And now you can watch “Let It Be” online in all its glory.
The carefully recovered and edited footage for “The Beatles: Get Back” was originally filmed to document the making of the group’s “Let It Be” album, which would eventually become their twelfth and final studio album. What director Michael Lindsay-Hogg got was an intimate image, behind closed doors, of the most famous band in the world falling apart in front of the lens: the personal and creative tensions between Paul, John, George and Ringo were accentuated, with the presence by Yoko Ono. Not helping matters.
The film concludes with the legendary rooftop concert, performed before a street of unsuspecting passersby, and John’s oft-repeated line: “I hope we passed the audition!”
“Let It Be” contains footage not featured in the documentary series “Get Back,” which takes viewers inside the studio and rooftop of Apple Corps in London in January 1969,” says Disney, whose streaming platform is launching the restored film. “With Lindsay- With Hogg’s full support, Apple Corps asked Peter Jackson’s Park Road Post Production to delve into a meticulous restoration of the film from the original 16mm negative.”
