The more digitalized our lives become, the more people are looking for high-speed Internet access at home. Two names you may know are eero and Verizon’s Fios fiber optic network. If you’re wondering if the two are compatible, you’ve come to the right place.

One of the most popular Internet products at the moment is the Eero Wi-Fi system manufactured by Amazon. It claims to be the first mesh Wi-Fi network that covers the entire home. Amazon releases regular hardware updates to ensure they work well at all times.
Eero’s second selling point is its ease of use. It can integrate with your current Internet Service Provider in a matter of minutes. All you need is to get the eero app and connect the eero router to your modem. (The router model you have may change some of the steps.)
After doing so, the home should receive a Wi-Fi signal. You can say goodbye to dead zones.
VerizonFios
VerizonFios is a group of fiber optic network packages that offer gigabit speeds. The packages have no hidden fees or equipment charges. What you see is what you get.
The fastest package lets you reach almost a gigabyte of speed, but there are 500 Mbps and 300 Mbps packages. All three come with leased routers and guaranteed prices.
Set up eero with Verizon Fios
How you set up eero with Verizon Fios may vary, as using Fios TV and Internet requires dual NAT and putting the routers in bridge mode. If you only have Fios Internet, you can connect the eero directly to an optical network terminal.
How to use Fios TV and Internet
To set up eero with Verizon Fios, you can connect your Eero or convert it to a dual NAT system. We’ll cover the first one below.
- Download and install the eero app on your mobile device.
- Use the app to create the eero network.
- Tap the “Settings” option in the bottom right corner.
- Select “Advanced.”
- Go to “DHCP and NAT”.
- Switch from “Automatic” to “Bridge” or “Manual.”
- Save the settings.
Some networks require you to mirror the eero’s NAT first. Here are the steps.
- Connect the eero gateway router to your router.
- Open the eero app.
- Follow the instructions in the application.
Those with a modem and router combination can perform the steps above by connecting the eero gateway directly to the device. The app will then allow you to connect the eero routers.
When you do a double NAT setup, you must give the eero network a different SSID and password. If not, there will be some complications.
Using Fios Internet only
People using Fios Internet can only connect the eero directly to the optical network terminal (ONT). However, not all ONTs are configured the same. Some will only communicate with your eero router over a coaxial cable, while others use an Ethernet cable.
You will have to carry out different processes depending on what it is designed for.
For ONTs configured for coaxial cable, you should try calling the Verizon Fiber Solutions Center at 1-800-VERIZON. They will take care of the rest and let the eero connect to the fiber optic network. If that is not possible, you can join the eero.
ONTs configured for Ethernet cables are easier to manage. There are four main solutions.
The first solution is to turn off the router for two hours. This is because Verizon Fios’ internal DHCP lasts so long. The router can obtain a new lease if the current lease expires.
You can also call the Verizon Fiber Solutions center and they can cancel the lease for you. That way you won’t have to wait two hours.
The Fios app has a troubleshooter for when you can’t connect to the Internet.
- Open the fios app on your mobile device.
- Look for an option called “I can’t connect to the Internet.”
- Follow the steps on the screen.
Finally, you can connect a computer to the Fios router and use the user interface.
- Go to your computer and open a web browser.
- Enter the IP address of your router.
- Sign in with the credentials.
- Look for the “Network Connections” options.
- Select “Release.”
- Apply settings.
- Disconnect the router to prevent it from obtaining a new DHCP lease.
Setting up eero shouldn’t be a problem if you find the right options.
Because Verizon only allows each account to have one MAC address, you must unplug the old router and configure the eero with their app. You can then use the Verizon app to report the issue.
Verizon will then run a test and publish the MAC address they stored. Your eero routers can now connect.
Not so difficult
While setting up a router may seem complicated, many apps today help streamline the process. Most of the time, you’ll want to make the correct hardware connections before completing system setup. Overall, it’s accurate to say that Amazon’s eero is compatible with Verizon Fios.
